CITY OF SAN JOSE - HOUSING DEPARTMENT

Dear Partners, Colleagues and Friends,Leslye

The Housing Department is excited to launch its first newsletter!  We hope to provide you with information and updates in the Housing Department on a periodic basis.

At this time of year, we give thanks to those who have made a difference and impacted our lives, and we value your partnership and friendship.  In that spirit, I want to give special thanks for two generous donors for funds received this week in support of Project Homeless Connect (PHC), which sponsors day-long events that link homeless residents with needed supplies, services, and connections.  A $5,000 donation, received from an anonymous citizen, will be used to purchase program supplies.  A $3,000 donation from The Hilton San Jose will be used for the immediate purchase of items such as gloves, hats, coats, and blankets to directly benefit PHC clients.  In addition to these donations, The Hilton San Jose staff are volunteering at upcoming PHC events.  These gifts are especially appreciated since there is so little funding for our homeless programs.

On behalf of the Department, I wish you a wonderful holiday season celebrated with family and friends.

Sincerely,

Leslye Corsiglia

The City of San Jose Housing Department, in partnership with the County of Santa Clara, recently launched SCCHousingSearch.org - a new rental housing database for San Jose and Santa Clara County.  This free-to-use website is designed to give renters, landlords, housing professionals, and social service providers access to real-time rental housing information.  Information is available in both English and Spanish. Because we are working with Socialserve.com, a nonprofit organization that hosts similar websites throughout the country that handle millions of searches each year, the information on the site is regularly updated.  Other benefits are a fully-staffed, toll free English/Spanish Call Center, which helps landlords list properties and helps tenants with their housing search.  To date, the site has received over 15,000 hits.  More properties are being added daily.  SCCHousingSearch.org can be accessed online at www.scchousingsearch.org or via the call center at 1-877-428-8844.  For information, please contact Theresa Hayes.

San Jose Housing Department Receives $3 Million Grant

In October, the Housing Department received word from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that it was the recipient of a $3 million grant to provide seismic safety retrofits to mobilehomes in San Jose.  The City will match the grant with $1 million. San Jose is home to the largest number of mobilehomes in California, with 58 parks and 10,649 mobilehome spaces.  These funds will be used to hire and oversee contractors that will perform the seismic bracing of 650 units located within ten mobilehome parks.  For more information, please contact James Stagi.
