Community Service Success
| |

Thank you so much for the generous participation in the community service project supporting Pierce County Alliance/Foster Family Dinner that was hosted at the Best Western in Gig Harbor on Friday, Dec 2nd. Gig Harbor Academy provided $580.00 in combined gifts of cash and gift cards that were used in addition to other donations to purchase amazing gifts for these local foster children. Teacher Lisa and all the students in art created holiday gift tags for all the gifts for that special GHA touch. These gifts were received with a overwhelming response of gratitude!
The sibling gift table was also well stocked for each sibling to pick out a new game/book or stuffed animal which was received with great enthusiasm. Many thanks to the families that also provided cookies for the dessert table. It was a fabulous event for these families and made each one of the foster children feel extra special on their night to celebrate. A GHA team of helpers were there to help wrap gifts, set up for the event, serve food, deliver drinks to tables as well as play and dance with the children.
Santa and Rhubarb (mascot for Rainiers Baseball team) as well as a local face painter made the evening very special. Many of the children and families participated in the dancing and a good time was had by all!
The Best Western/Wesley Inn team and Pierce County Alliance have contacted me to again thank Gig Harbor Academy for their incredible support during this time of the year!
Thanks Gig Harbor Academy for reaching out to our community! WAY TO GO!!
Imka Lavinder, SFN Community Service Coordinator

From The Business Office
|
Thank you to those families who have already signed up to have their statements e-mailed to them. As the office trends towards being as paperless as possible, we would encourage everyone to chose this option for financial billing. Please let Paul or the office know if you would like to be on the list for email communication. Save a tree, go paperless!

Second Grade World Travelers
|
After their studies on the fifty states, Second Grade is now getting their passports ready for a trip around the globe! Each student has chosen a country to research and compile a report in Keynote on the iPads. Tuesday they were visited by Miss Jenny Buys' brother, his wife and her father, both native Brazilians. They presented to the class about Brazil's culture, cuisine, currency and more. They even got to learn some Samba moves! What a great way for the Second Graders to learn about life beyond our borders.

Prekindergarten Holiday Fun
|
Miss Carolyn and her GHA Prekindergarten class got in the holiday spirit this week while making holiday chains. Each student had to construct the chains using 10 red and 10 green links, putting their counting skills to good use. Once the chains were completed, they decorated their classroom with them. Stop by to see their a mazing work!

Preschool Gingerbread House Night
|
On Tuesday, December 6th dads and substitute dads were invited to the preschool classroom from 6:00 - 7:00 PM to build gingerbread houses with their preschooler. By the end of the hour, houses were adorned with colorful frosting and tons of different types of candies. You could see in each house that the children put lots of thought into their masterpieces. Children used their math skills with patterns and counting (one piece of candy on the house, one piece of candy in the mouth!). What a fun, sugar filled evening.
