Mix It Up Day During Lunch
Mix It Up Day
A national campaign launched by Teaching Tolerance a decade ago, Mix It Up at Lunch Day encourages students to identify, question and cross social boundaries. GHA Prekindergarten through fifth grade students recognized Mix It Up Day this past Tuesday, October 18th during their lunch hour. Kids were "all mixed up" and different age groups were assigned seats and then they ate lunch together while watching the video "How to Do Homework without Throwing Up." The video reinforced that everyone has homework and that it is not horrible, by explaining to the students the benefits of homework. This video, based on the best-selling book of the same name, taught the kids that by doing homework it helps you review and and build on the skills that you learn during classroom time. The students were also asked to make a new friend and learn something about that person that they could report back. Kids ended their lunch with a multi-age playground time.

Thank you to Sheila Walther, Mix It Up Day Coordinator, for planning this fun-filled social hour!

Campus Improvements
Campus ImprovementsGHA parent Eric Noguchi was spotted on the playground this week improving the perimeter of the small big toy. As part of their community service, the fifth grade class transported new timbers to the playground so Eric could install them. Thanks to 3rd, 4th and 5th grades for loading extra gravel that was then added to the area surrounding the big toy for increased safety.
Thank you to all who helped with this Campus Improvement effort!

GHHS Lends A Hand
Gig Harbor High School students were seen on campus last week doing community service for their Sophomore health class assignment. Reed Dickens (a GHA alumni who graduated fifth grade in 2007 and Kim Dicken's son) and Sam Agee (Senora Agee's son) along with their friends Tyee and Mark helped clean up the wetlands.
 GHHS Volunteer Day
If you know of any high school students needing community service hours we would love to have them help GHA. Please contact Paul Hoover for more information.

Class Spotlights
Third Grade Book Reports
3rd grade book reportThe third grade class produced and presented their first book report of the year this week. The students were asked to make a flap book that described the characters in the book, the setting, the problem, and the solution of the story. The book reports are on display in front of the third grade classroom. Stop by and see the quality and time that the third grade students put in to this project. It is impressive!
Childcare Corner
Hibernating Animals
The children in Our School Childcare are learning all about the wild animals that will be hibernating for the winter. They learned that some animals, such as chipmunks and squirrels, stock up on food to have in their nest so they do not have to endure the elements of winter to search for food when it is scarce. They also learned that other animals, like bears and groundhogs, will eat immense amounts of food and then sleep the winter away. In the picture below the children made models of animal habitats.

Kaukiki Farm - World Quality, Raised Locally, Naturally!

Kaukiki Farm is a local, family farm dedicated to the production of healthy, naturally raised livestock that you can place in your pastures or on your dinner table with trust.

We raise our animals on plenty of fresh grass, hay, and sunshine with minimal grain. This produces flavorsome cuts of meat that are tender & tasty but not laden with fat. Our animals grow at their own natural pace, on a daily diet free of growth hormones and antibiotics. It does take longer to produce animals this way, but we feel the taste is worth the wait!

We are now taking orders for Angus Beef, luscious lamb, and pasture paradise pork for November and December delivery.
