Technology Request
| Mrs. Buys, our technology teacher, is in need of ear buds for the students to use during technology class. She would like each student to have their own which will be kept at school in a plastic bag labeled with the students name. If you have some spare ones that you are willing to donate she would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your help.

Johnny Appleseed Day
| On Monday, Sept. 26th, students in Prekindergarten through 5th grade will be celebrating Johnny Appleseed's birthday with all sorts of apple centered activities. Older students will be grouped with younger students and work together in teams to cycle around to the various centers. There will be applesauce making, apple juice making with an apple press, peeling apple to see who can get the longest continuous peel (of course using those wonderful math measuring skills), apple art, measuring, weighing, comparing....oh! and of course TASTING apples! And the day wouldn't be complete without some fun activities on the Apple iPads!! I'm sure John Chapman had no expectations of his birthday being remembered 200 years later and definitely NOT with computers and so much FUN!

Field Trip Driver Requirements
| Field trips are an integral part of the school's academic program. The number and type of field trips taken varies by grade level, but all trips relate to areas being studied in the classroom. Parents are our main source for transportation on field trips. As a volunteer on field trips, parents are asked to provide a copy of their driving record, a copy of their drivers license, and a copy of their proof of insurance card (the office is happy to make copies for you). All of these documents need to be on file in the school office. Your driving record can be obtained by going to the Department of Licensing website. There is a charge of $10 per driving record.

Second Grade And The United States Of America
| Sheila Walther's second grade class has been learning all about the United States of America. Through apps on the iPad2's they are learning capitals, nicknames, state flowers, etc, with Stack the States app and then learning the location of each state through the Kids Map app. Each student will research a self chosen state through Atlas books borrowed from the fifth grade class and Google searching on the iPad2's. The students will present their research to their classmates.
Second grade students are holding their iPad2's displaying the state's flag of the state their are researching. BACK TO TOP |

Crazy Construction
| |
Every week childcare explores a different theme that is incorporated into their academic and arts program. The kids explore everything from apples to zoo animals and anything in between. Crazy Construction was a summer theme where the children learned about erecting buildings with different supplies found around the home. The kids built this unique castle made out of household recycling items such as paper towel rolls, cereal boxes, cracker boxes, etc. They were allowed to let their creativity and imagination flow. If you would like to see the castle in person it is currently residing in the childcare building.

Family Businesses
| Still no interest, so I am running Mary Wotherspoon's ad for the third week in a row! I will start the web page as soon as I get more interest. Did I mention this is a free service? I know we have doctors, insurance agents, realtors and more. Let's support GHA families and the businesses they own or work for.
At GHA we realize that we are more than just a school we are a community and we all benefit from community support. In the spirit of community support we would like to provide a way for GHA families to connect with other GHA families that have businesses or work in a service industry. Starting next week GHA will have a tab on our website called Family Businesses. This page will give families opportunities to support GHA family businesses. If you are interested in advertising please send a pdf or jpg to Niki in the office for approval. We will also highlight your business for one week on the weekly e-newsletter.
Thank you to Mary Wotherspoon for this fantastic idea. Her ad will be featured this week below and then will live on the website under the "travel" category starting next week. A link will be provided in next week's newsletter.
