There were numerous fun activities and plenty of food for all. It was a great turn out and a fantastic way to kick off the school year. First Grade Garden
| First grade has planted their "winter" garden as part of their science unit on Cycles of Knowing and Growing. This year, Marci Hardy will be helping on Fridays with the gardening, weeding, watering, and in-class projects. This week her excess acorn squash will give first graders the opportunity to weigh, measure circumference, predict the number of seeds, and group seeds for counting large numbers. Each student will also watch bean seeds grow up close and personal in their own mini window green houses. Our HOPE is to have enough produce from our winter garden to be able to donate veggies to the food bank.

School Pictures
| |
Tuesday, September 20th
Wednesday, September 21st

School pictures will once again be taken by Molly Finnell within the picturesque setting of GHA (weather permitting). If you would like siblings to have pictures taken together please let the office know so we can make sure that it is scheduled. Order forms will be sent out this Friday. Please see the schedule below so you know when your child will be photographed. The day we take the all school picture will be determined by lighting. So on the day your child is not scheduled for pictures it would be great if they wore their spirit wear to show their school spirit in the all school portrait.
Tuesday, September 20th T/TH Preschool Pre-K through 2nd grade Wednesday, September 21st M/W/F Preschool 3rd grade - 5th grade Please note: Siblings will be scheduled on the day that the youngest child is scheduled to have their picture taken with their class. We are still looking for volunteers to help on Wednesday. If you would like to be a runner please contact the front office. |

Family Businesses
| Since none of you have taken me up on the below offer I am running Mary Wotherspoon's ad for the second week in a row! I will start the web page as soon as I get more interest. Did I mention this is a free service? I know we have doctors, insurance agents, realtors and more. Let's support GHA families and the businesses they own or work for.
At GHA we realize that we are more than just a school we are a community and we all benefit from community support. In the spirit of community support we would like to provide a way for GHA families to connect with other GHA families that have businesses or work in a service industry. Starting next week GHA will have a tab on our website called Family Businesses. This page will give families opportunities to support GHA family businesses. If you are interested in advertising please send a pdf or jpg to Niki in the office for approval. We will also highlight your business for one week on the weekly e-newsletter.
Thank you to Mary Wotherspoon for this fantastic idea. Her ad will be featured this week below and then will live on the website under the "travel" category starting next week. A link will be provided in next week's newsletter.
