A Note About Parking on Campus

Please keep VISITOR parking spots open (even if you'll only be a few minutes!). As the year ends, more and more prospective parents are visiting our campus to tour the school.

RESERVED spots are just that, reserved. Each year, GHA offers parking spots at our annual auction and families pay for them to support the school. Please respect reserved parking spots and leave them for the family's that purchased them.

4th Grade Explores Fort Nisqually

As written by Katie, Isabel and Thomas...

4th at the Fort

Fourth grade went to Fort Nisqually. Fort Nisqually is a trading fort that was mostly used in the 1800's. Fort Nisqually was part of the Hudson Bay Company. Hudson Bay Company was a British company.

The first place fourth grade went to was the General store, in the General store fourth grade learned about beaver pelts and how the people traded them for food. In the General store we also learned that they used tobacco to get bugs out of the animals.

Next, fourth grade went to granary and learned about it. In the granary we learned about this lady that had a baby in the granary. The granary was one of the oldest buildings in Washington and was made in 1850.

Fourth grade went to the blacksmith. We learned that the blacksmith would pound metal in a 3000-degree forge. We also learned how to operate it.

The last place we went to was the bosses house his name was Dr. Tolmie and his wife was Jane Tolmie. We learned that the kitchen and the bathroom were not in the house. The bathroom was called a "necessary". The kitchen was not in the house because it was very hot and so that the kids would not get in the food. It also was not in the house because it lowered the chance of fire to the big house.

It was fun going to Fort Nisqually. We learned a lot about what a trading fort was like. We were surprised how hard it was on the families.
