TOPGuest Speaker Shares Guatemala Experience

Guatemala Guest Speaker

Last Friday, Gail Hall visited the GHA campus to speak about Guatemala and the village she sponsors in the high mountains of the Latin American country.

Gail described daily life in the Guatemalan village and spoke about typical days of the school children in Guatemala.

GHA students gained a better understanding of the culture by having Gail share her experiences. Students got to try on traditional Mayan clothing which the Guatemalans continue to weave by hand.

Gail sold scarves and bracelets made by the women in the village as a fundraiser for the Guatemalans.  You may have seen teachers and students sporting the colorful scarves all this week.

GHA Night at Tacoma Rainiers

Rainiers Night - Kelly's  The last SFN Family Fun Night was Saturday, May 21st at Cheney Stadium to watch the Tacoma Rainiers play the Memphis Redbirds. Close to 80 people came to cheer on our local minor league team in their newly renovated stadium! Lots of hot dogs, cotton candy, licorice, and popcorn was consumed by the children while they had a blast visiting with each other and watching America's favorite past time. Thank you to Wendy Kelly and Cristina McDougall for organizing this very fun evening.

Preschool's Eggs Have Hatched!

Baby ChickGHA's preschool students have been learning a lot about the life-cycle of a chicken. Over the past weeks eggs have incubated and this week they have hatched!

It's been very exciting and extremely cute to watch the baby chicks hatch and begin their lives outside of the egg.

On June 3rd, the preschool children will take a field trip to the Bryant family farm to deliver the chickens to their new home.

Click on the image to be taken to a video of a GHA chick hatching this week!

Prekindergarten Explores Sehmel Park

It was a beautiful sunny day at Sehmel Park on Tuesday! Prekindergarten had many parents accompany the class on their trip, where they had a snack on the picnic tables and played hard!

Sehmel Park

The park is beautiful with a huge area for soccer, baseball, basketball and tennis.  The HUGE play structure had numerous slides, a great monkey bar, and a sand area to explore! The big hit was a 4 person teeter totter!! There was a platform in the middle of it that kids could balance on, as the kids teetered up and down! There was also a fabulous "ship-like" structure with seats and you could sway the whole thing back and forth!

PreK students had boundless energy for a full 2 hours.  It was a wonderful outing  with everyone able to attend.  Ms. Carolyn and Ms. Kim were thrilled to have such a great group adventure, as the school year winds down. They were also happy to report there were no injuries or even hurt feelings on this adventure!!

3rd Grade Mock Trial - Big Bad Wolf On Trial

Mock Trial - Caroline This week third grade learned how our legal system works by putting the Big Bad Wolf on trial for two accounts of murder and two accounts of personal property damage. The students took on the roles of the witnesses, defendant, and prosecutor during this mock trial. The students learned how to argue a case and examine and cross examine witnesses all while gaining presentation and critical thinking skills. Other GHA students and parents were invited to attend the mock trial as the jury. Honorable Judge Perry kept the members of the jury under control and the trial moving smoothly. After both sides were heard it was up to the jury to decide the verdict. Poor Big Bad Wolf was convicted of all four charges and sent to jail!!
