Wednesday Cooperative Meetings

Our teachers will be meeting during the lunch and recess hours every Wednesday through May in order to work collegially as cluster groups or as a full faculty as we prepare to complete our self-study work for the PNAIS accreditation visit. These meetings address topics such as curricular integration across grade levels, the role of information services in the classroom, how critical thinking skills are observed and measured and much more. Faculty requested these additional times to meet as our twice monthly faculty meetings are devoted to operational planning. We thank the various volunteers who have joined with the office staff and aides to cover lunch and recess monitoring during these weekly lunch meetings! Band-aids and "ice-rice" can still be provided for "owwies".

Class Spotlight
Prekindergarten Is Sight Word Savvy

Prekindergarten Sight Words

Pictured above is the second Sight Word list the prekindergarten class has worked on this year. Once the students are able to recite the list of words they get to sign their name on the big eye. Prekindergarten students love the competition of learning Sight Words!

Sight Words (sometimes called the Dolch Word List) are some of the most frequently used words in the English language. Even though there are only about 200, sight words make up approximately 50 to 70 percent of any given general, non-technical text. Therefore, teaching sight words as early as possible is considered a crucial part of elementary education.

Pictured below, Jill Piasecki (one of GHA's awesome parent volunteers!) reads to the prekindergarten students Thursday afternoon.
