TopSigns Of Spring At GHA!

Spring Has Sprung on the GHA Campus

There have been many signs of spring popping up on our beautiful wooded campus. Daffodils and early spring flowers are blooming, robins are catching their early morning worms and a resident deer has been spotted a couple of times grazing on the green shoots of early springtime plants. Mr. Funk took this candid photo of the young black-tail deer near the 4th/5th grade building last week.

2011-2012 School Calendar Posted

Calendar

Our 2011-2012 school year calendar is now available for your planning. School will begin for Prekindergarten through 5th grade on September 1. Preschool programs will begin on September 1st with a parent/student orientation for the T/TH children and the following day for the M/W/F group. We will notify all parents about start of school events during the summer months.

There are two significant changes from this year's calendar:

  • Parent conference days in the fall and spring will be earlier than years before,
  • The February week-long break has been replaced with a four day weekend.

For the most part, our calendar reflects the Peninsula School District which impacts a large number of our families. The number of school days is the same as this year. There are also two professional development days for teachers which is the same as this year.

GHA 4th Grade students learned how to make paper cranes this week and will be encouraging the rest of the school to get involved too.

Students can work on creating paper cranes at home. Click here to download easy instructions to create more cranes. Please write your name and hometown on each crane in order to help with the Cranes for Kids project.

Thursday Art Class: Inspired By Trees

Ms. Lisa Mellinger, art teacher at GHA, is a working artist who shows and sells her work. This week Ms. Lisa brought one of her paintings into school to help inspire the students and their works of art.

Chica Chica Boom Boom Trees

Kindergarten students painted alphabet trees to go along with reading, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, an alphabet-inspired book.

4th Grade Art Class

4th and 5th Grade students worked with water colors to create replicas of Ms. Lisa's artwork. First they covered the paper with a light black/ gray wash and then painted cherry trees and added blossom details.
Below, you can see Ms. Lisa's painting in the background.

5th Grade Tree Art

Be sure to attend the Spring Art Show on Friday, April 15th at the Fox Alliance Church to see a marvelous display of artwork that GHA students have been creating throughout the school year.
