RENEWED, REFRESHED....RESTORED
By Ex. Director, Kathy A. Weckwerth

"Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain it."  Psalm 51:12 NIV

As Best Life Ministries is moving ahead with the purchase of our little 1900's church to the grove in just ten short days, it has made me stop and look at who we are when we're depleted, when we need restoration.  I have been considering not only the restoration of this old building , but internally at the restoration of my own soul.

After many conferences this spring, a new issue of our YOUR BEST magazine, our youngest getting married, and purchasing an old church building (followed by lots of media!), Farmer Dean and I found ourselves exhausted!

Webster's Dictionary says the word "restore" means to "put something back...to reestablish something that was once but is no longer there," or "to give somebody new strength and vigor," and it dawned on me, once again, that in order to restore anything to its original state, we must have an original state to restore.  Jesus promises in John 10:10b that He wants us to be living an abundant life.  In order to keep that life abundant, we must take care of it.  We must daily be filled up with God's Word and time in prayer with God.

But sometimes restoration for the soul includes a day(s) away from the routine....  mixing things up.....good food, good rest, and good time away from the norm.  And so, Deano and I headed up north with the family to a cabin on a lake for a week and began to restore our bodies with rest, our minds with prayer, our bellys with good food, and our eyes with nature.  And something marvelous happened....we felt better, stronger, and energized.

Over the past 32 years, the little church that will be headquarters for BLM, has sat vacant with little repair or restoration.  On August 14, 2012, we start the restoration process and are excited for all of you who are partnering with us in this project.  To see it come to life once again, and to know that God will continue His purpose is our greatest joy.

Take a moment today and look at your own soul.  Are you in need of some restoration?  Are the windows of your soul spotted and dirty?  The floors of your heart overtaken with fatigue?  The roof of your mind scattered with shingles loose?  It's time to take some moments to get rest and make time for your own restoration!

Justin Hildebrand   YOUR BEST HEALTH

Preventing Neck or Cervical Pain

By:  Dr. Justin Hildebrand, DC

Neck or cervical pain affects a large majority of the population. Whether it is headaches, pain with movement, or disc like symptoms, most people have the same findings with a good functional exam. Upon presentation, their posture demonstrates a forward head and rounded shoulders; they have overactive neck extensor and shoulder elevator muscles, and weak deep neck flexors and shoulder blade stabilizers. These findings did not just spontaneously develop, they stem from movement patterns developed in childhood.

If one does not develop good stable support on their elbows and belly when a baby, then they have to overuse their neck and upper shoulder muscles to lift their head.

babies

Baby to left: Correct stability on elbows and stomach. Baby to right: Incorrect. Force is placed on chest and shoulders and the head is being held up by neck muscles.

These patterns continue to be used as a teenager, adult, and eventually lead to dysfunction and pain due to overactivity of these muscles. We can train proper movement with simple exercises that stretch neck muscles, and strengthen weak shoulder blade stabilizers and deep neck flexors.

          Exercise 1

You maybe thinking, "I can not do this exercise while at work or without being able to lie on the floor." While at work or in your car we can do variations that help restore proper neck movement and stretch the overactive muscles.

This exercise is designed to improve function of the neck muscles.

Setup:

1.      Lay on your stomach with your arms above your head and elbows bent at 90o

2.     Place your forehead on the table.

3.     Slightly tuck your chin and gently press your elbows into the table while lowering your shoulder blades downward.

4.     Raise your entire head off the table focusing to make the majority of the movement come from your upper back.

5.     Hold for 2 secs and return your forehead to the table.

6.     Repeat 10 times for 3 reps

Notes:

·       Your chin should not move during this exercise and you should not look up.

·       Your neck and shoulder muscles should be relaxed.

·       Make sure the movement comes from your upper back.

          Setup:

  1. Start seated in a chair sitting up tall.
  2. Move your head back as far as you can while keeping your chin tucked.
  3. You should remain looking straight ahead, do not look down.
  4. This is retracted position. Once you have achieved retraction, use one of your hands to gently push yourself into more retraction.
  5. Hold for a few secs and relax.
  6. Repeat as much as necessary, minimum 1 set every waking hour.

Notes:

·       Remain looking straight ahead at all times.

·       A mid-backed chair is optimal for this exercise.

·       This can be done anywhere at any time.

THE GOODBYE SERVICE FOR FRANK LAKE COVENANT CHURCH

Psalm 145:4 & 7

"One generation will commend Your works to another; they will tell of Your mighty acts....They will celebrate Your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of Your righteousness."

Dear Friend,

On Sunday, July 29th, we celebrated the past, embraced the present, and focused on the future of Frank Lake Covenant Church.

Pastor Richard Lundgren, the only surviving pastor of Frank Lake Covenant, along with Pastor Lewie Schulz, friend to Best Life, both spoke, while Dave Herring led worship (with James), and the original members of the Swedish Choir from 1950 sang some of their original hymns from long ago.

Over 150 people attended and many brought not only memoribilia, but stories that had been passed on from generation to generation.

When you entered the church, the cool summer breeze blew through the open windows, as you heard the chatter amongst old friends above the beautiful bird calls out in the backyard cemetary.  People were genuinely glad to be together one more time.

But for them, there was a definate saddness.  A closing of a door.  A looking back at family, friends, and worship that had gone before....and now was being relinquished.

For Best Life...we move ahead in great anticipation for what God will do!
