Like Us on Facebook

Stay connected over the summer - like us on Facebook! Our new Facebook page, which is non-alumni specific, will regularly highlight all the great things happening on campus and with the Jax Country Day family throughout the summer and the school year.

New Summer Learning Program

Please look for details about an exciting new Summer Learning Program for students entering grades one through six in next week's Thursday Reminder.  We think that you will be pleased with the changes, which will make summer learning as easy as 1-2-3!  Also:

  • The information will be in your child's Thursday Folder on May 24.
  • Singapore Math summer workbook will come home on May 24.
  • This information will also be available online on the JCDS homepage by Thursday, May 24.

Coof Caf' Accounts

As we approach the final days of this school year we would like to thank you for the support of the Cool Caf' at Jax Country Day. We also would like to remind you to please bring all accounts to a zero balance as quickly as possible. If you have returning students, please know that your positive balances will carry over to the next school year. Also, the EZpay system will be shutting down for the summer on June 8, but the system will be available for you up until that time. If you have any questions, please contact Chef Bryant, who will be more than happy to assist you. Thank you again for your continued support.

Library Books

With just nine and a half more days of school, it is time to begin our library book round up. Please return any library books as soon as possible so we can begin our inventory process. This round up helps us find wayward books and know which books need to be replaced before the beginning of the next school year.

We know our great readers love their books! While we will not be checking out any more books from the Jax Country Day library this year, we'd like to remind you that your local public library is gearing up for a fantastic summer reading program. Check with your local branch for details about shows, presenters, reading logs, prizes, and more!

Reminders

Uniforms

RC Uniforms & Embroidery is offering a 10% discount for all purchases made during the months of May and June (closed May 27 to June 4). Also, if your items are too small at the beginning of school you may return them up to 30 days after the start of the next school year.

Donate Your Old Recorders

Two of our alums, Catherine and Margaret Odom-Tomchin, are collecting old, used soprano recorders to help children make music! The girls will completely clean and sterilize the recorders and take them to Guatemala on a mission trip this summer. They will give them to children there. There is a box in the Music Room where you can place the instruments. Please note that our current fourth graders may not donate their recorders to this cause. We are still using their recorders. Thanks so much!

Business & Fundraising

Box Tops for Education

Thank you for collecting and turning in your Box Tops...counting is already in progress! Be on the lookout for a Ziploc baggie in an upcoming Thursday folder for a fun summer collection! We will award the family that collects the most Box Tops with a special prize. More details to come in next week's Thursday Reminder! Access a list of participating products here.

Recycle and Earn

Recycle your used ink cartridges, old cell phones, laptops, and small electronics (iPods, MP3 players, and digital cameras) at school. Your recyclables convert to cash and rewards that help JCDS get the things we need and you help the environment! Simply drop off any of these items at the Main Office; staff may drop off in the faculty lounge. This great fundraising opportunity is open throughout the school year. View the list of qualifying items here.

Target REDcard

We have 47 families and friends who are supporting JCDS; will you help us reach at least 50 before the end of the school year? Apply for your Target REDcard and JCDS receives 1 percent of all purchases! Click the link to access the Target REDcard website for more information. The JCDS School ID is 5039.

Lovable Labels

Summer camp is coming soon! If you don't want to worry that something your child brings to camp gets confused with someone else's belongings, check out Lovable Labels. Lovable Labels has a huge selection of high-quality, personalized sticker labels with endless uses. They are machine washable and dishwasher safe...so no more losing clothes, shoes, lunchboxes, or sports bottles!

Place your own orders using the JCDS-specific webpage and your items will be mailed directly to your home...and the best part: JCDS receives 20% of the purchase price.

Construction Corner
Our new traffic island

The construction of the Smith Center is moving forward in a timely fashion and on schedule. The construction team has

targeted milestones over the next few months that include:

  • Finished curbing and road base at the front parking lot
  • Roofing complete for building dry-in
  • Painting begins May 24 - through the end of project
  • Metal framing of the interior walls completed
  • Doors installed
  • Drywall started by May 21 - completed by June 20
  • Windows installed from June 11to June 26
  • Air conditioning/heating equipment running by June 15
  • Flooring and finishes started June 15
  • Landscape building and field irrigation system through the end of the project

In addition, we have successfully initiated our Phase III traffic pattern and want to extend a huge thank you for everyone's patience and support.

This will be the final traffic pattern for the school year.  As you navigate your way around campus, please note the following:

  • Our front parking lot is OPEN, just make a left turn into the front lot
  • If you would like to park and come into campus and have a 4-6th grader that you are dropping off, please feel free to use the front circle drop off area to avoid the sharp right turn at the front of campus
  • Please drive slowly and follow the directions of our traffic personnel
Once again, we truly appreciate your patience and promise to have a newly paved road system and a brand new state of the art multi-purpose building when you return next year!

Thank you,

The Construction Committee
