Featured Department
Public Works
One of the County's most diverse departments, Public Works is responsible for a number of services that have a huge impact on quality of life in Glynn. Public Works provides maintenance of Glynn County roads, drainage structures, traffic control devices, County vehicles and capital equipment, and mosquito control services.
DRAINAGE DIVISION
This division inspects and insures that drainage structures in the County are functioning adequately. In some cases, drainage systems must be upgraded to handle a larger water capacity or to keep up with development in growing areas. The Public Works Department operates on a quarterly drainage schedule to insure that all parts of Glynn County receive routine maintenance. Requests for service can also be made through the Customer Service Department.
FLEET MAINTENANCE DIVISION
This division provides vehicle maintenance support for all County departments to service light vehicles and heavy equipment. As the result of a recent consolidation program, Fleet Maintenance also supports the Glynn County Fire Department and its apparatus.
MOSQUITO CONTROL DIVISION
The mosquito control division monitors and controls the mosquito population in Glynn County. This is a crucial task in our coastal environment when it comes to public health issues, such as West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus. This year has been especially busy for the division as long drought periods, followed by heavy rainfall have bolstered the population of adult mosquitoes. The division also conducts outreach efforts to educate the public on protective actions they can take to prevent breeding mosquitoes and becoming victim to their bites.
ROAD MAINTENANCE DIVISION
The Road Maintenance Division conducts routine maintenance and repair to County roads, as well as caring for the right-of-way through mowing and litter control. This division is commonly called after a storm to clear roads of tree limbs and other storm debris. Bulky item and white goods pickup provided by the division can be requested through the Customer Service Department.
TRAFFIC SAFETY DIVISION
The Traffic Safety Division ensures a safe driving environment on County roadways. The division conducts maintenance & replacement of traffic control devices and directional signage. In addition, it provides traffic studies in neighborhoods and upon request & evaluation, install neighborhood speed bumps and humps.

September is National Preparedness Month...
ARE YOU READY?

September is National Preparedness Month. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, it is a nationwide effort to encourage individuals, families and businesses to prepare ahead of time for all types of emergencies. Any emergency can devastate those not prepared.
Ready Georgia is a project of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency. You should visit their website at www.ready.ga.gov. Here individuals and businesses will find the comprehensive information they need to Plan. Prepare. Stay Informed.
As always, you can also get information by visiting the Brunswick-Glynn County Emergency Management Agency's website at www.glynncounty.org.
There are a number of emergencies and natural disasters that can impact life in the Golden Isles. One of the most prevalent threats is that of a hurricane. Part of preparing for a hurricane means understanding what to expect after the storm has passed. The impact of a hurricane can last far beyond the actual storm. Often the most difficult part is afterwards.
In addition to any property damage you may incur due to high winds, rain and flooding. It is highly likely there will be little to no communication, no power or water. Although you should have a supply of food and water as part of your emergency kit, keep in mind these outages can sometimes last for several weeks. During the hot summer months of hurricane season being without power can be both miserable and dangerous. Limited clean, running water means there will be very few shower and bathing opportunities. Road travel may be impossible or extremely hazardous. Curfews may be enacted.
The best way you can protect yourself is to plan ahead and stay informed. During an emergency make sure you tune your FM Radio to 104.9, the Glynn County Emergency Advisory Radio System and stay tuned for further updates from the Brunswick-Glynn County Emergency Management Agency.
