City dwellers are making a concerted effort to embody a "green" lifestyle, and Residential developers are responding to this sensibility by providing more sustainable, luxury high rise buildings.
STUDIO V Architecture was chosen to design the condos at 303 East 33rd, with the challenge to incorporate flooring that complemented the clean, contemporary aesthetic of the interiors and contributed toward LEEDŽ credits for certification. Vertical Grain Bamboo Flooring, a naturally rapidly renewable material, was installed throughout all the residential units, adding the right amount of warmth and texture to the materials palette.

"Carbonized bamboo is one of those unique materials that offers me the opportunity to be creative, cost- effective, and green. And I rely on Architectural Systems for obsessive quality and service so I know my clients will be happy about it too."
Jay Valgora, Principal, STUDIO V Architecture
Architectural Systems, which is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Chain of Custody certified, met the unusual request for FSC-certified bamboo hardwood, supplying the perfect flooring product for this project. This certification verifies responsible harvesting and manufacturing practices from the material's source, through distribution, to the end user.
"During construction, Architectural Systems worked closely with the team to ensure that all the necessary LEEDŽ documentation was provided. From the start of design through the end of construction, ASI delivered a beautiful product with an unmatched level of service."
John MacCallum, Senior Designer, STUDIO V Architecture
303 East 33rd is the first LEEDŽ-certified condominium in the Murray Hill area of Manhattan, following in the low-carbon footsteps of buildings such as The Soltaire in Battery Park City (the first LEEDŽ certified building in NYC) and The Helena in midtown, offering an eco-conscious living choice in this vibrant, centrally located neighborhood.
