Navigating Alaskan Waters: Natives, Science, and Politics - September 20
On Thursday from 4-5:30 pm in Kresge Auditorium, Visual Arts Center, Bowdoin College, The Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum will host a panel discussion featuring the leaders of the five Alaska animal commissions, charged with protecting relationships between Iñupiat and Yupik and the animals on which they rely. The discussion will center on the roles traditional knowledge, science, and policy play in stewarding marine mammal resources, protecting habitat, and ensuring availability and safety of country foods. Tech Meetup Brown Bag Lunch - Intro to Google Drive - September 21

Ceremony to Mark the Restoration of the Mid Coast Hospital Nature Trail - September 27
Mid Coast Hospital will host a ceremony to mark the restoration of its Nature Trail and enhancement of its Healing Garden. The wooded trail, accessible through the hospital's Healing Garden and parking lots, offers more than 3,300 feet of prepared walking paths that patients, visitors, staff, and the community can use for exercise in a beautiful outdoor environment. The ceremony will take place in the hospital's Healing Garden, located directly behind the Café, Thursday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. At the event, donors both past and present, will be honored for their contributions that helped to create these green spaces in 2001 and have assisted in enhancing them through the years. Frontiers of Music: Concert #5 - September 27
Frontiers of Music #5 will feature five improvised performances. Christopher Cathode weaves percussion, electronics, and amplified 'found-objects' - often abandoned medical and industrial devices - into a post-apocalyptic sonic landscape that brings to mind a landscape of abandoned factories and dwellings. Contrabass soloist Joshua DeScherer presents a virtuosic solo performance featuring extended techniques, and drawing upon the stylistic variety in Dr. DeScherer's musical background. Trumpeter Mark Tipton and shakuhachi player Phil James will play as a duo, blending the sounds of two culturally and sonically disparate wind instruments. Benb Gallagher (percussion), Nick Dentico (bass guitar), and Sequoia Leaf will play as a trio; and the lineup is rounded out by the Richard Nelson Imaginary Ensemble, a flexible and genre-bending ensemble that is able to explore a tremendous variety of music within a single performance. 10 x 10 Benefit Art Exhibit & Sale - September 28
The watercolor Pisa, A Different View by Maine artist Tim Banks has been chosen to represent the fifth annual 10 X 10 Benefit Art Exhibit & Sale. This painting is among 325 works that will be on exhibit and for sale at the event Friday, 5-8 pm at the Curtis Memorial Library and St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Pleasant Street. All artwork priced at $200 is framed and ready to hang. A Public Preview will be held September 27, 5-8pm and September 28, 12-3 pm.
