Family Arts & Science Festival - September 9

Five River Arts Alliance and the Cornerstones of Science have partnered to offer this festival Sunday, from 10 am - 4 pm on the Mall featuring music, demonstrations, astronomers and astro-photography, art workshops, and more. Youth Sports Jamboree - September 9

Hosted by the Brunswick Youth Sports Council and led by  Bowdoin College Athletes, this event will showcase all the various youth sports programs available in the area. Check in and warm ups at 1 pm. Interactive sports clinics at Farley Field House 1:15-3:10 pm, allowing kids to participate in four 25-minute long clinic of their choice. At 1:15 pm, Jeff Ward will present remarks for parents about the benefits of youth sports and how you can make the experience a positive one for both you and your child. At 3:15 pm, Owen "Kit" Smith will present remarks for kids about the personal benefits of involvement in youth sports programs. At the youth sports equipment "give and go", 3:45-4:30 pm at Watson Arena, you can bring outgrown sports equipment to make available at no charge to other families. Asante Africa Artist Reception at Points of View - September 12

Navigating Alaskan Waters: Natives, Science, and Politics - September 20

On Thursday from 4-5:30 pm in Kresge Auditorium, Visual Arts Center, Bowdoin College, The Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum will host a panel discussion featuring the leaders of the five Alaska animal commissions, charged with protecting relationships between Iñupiat and Yupik and the animals on which they rely. The discussion will center on the roles traditional knowledge, science, and policy play in stewarding marine mammal resources, protecting habitat, and ensuring availability and safety of country foods. CREA Community Nature Program, Project Squirrel - September 25

10 x 10 Benefit Art Exhibit & Sale - September 28

The watercolor Pisa, A Different View by Maine artist Tim Banks has been chosen to represent the fifth annual 10 X 10 Benefit Art Exhibit & Sale. CREA Birds of Prey Program by Wind Over Wings - September 29

Visitors to Bowdoin College now have quite a few more places to park, following recent changes to the College's parking policies. Visitors to the Admissions office, the College museums, and other campus venues are now able to park in centrally located lots previously reserved for students, faculty, and staff. CHANS Home Health Care is offering FREE Hospice Volunteer training classes beginning September 6. The training classes will run for 10 consecutive weeks on Thursdays from 4 - 7 pm in the conference room at the Hospice Building at 45 Baribeau Drive. This free training prepares individuals to deal compassionately and sensitively with end-of-life issues in a volunteer capacity. A completed application and pre-training interview is required before being admitted to the program. Each year, as children head back to school, those with asthma must provide their school with updated Maine Asthma Action Plans, a written strategy that is to help control a patient's asthma.
