Bowdoin International Music Festival - through August 4th
Distinguished classical musicians from renowned chamber groups, orchestras, conservatories, and extraordinary young musicians will be featured in a wide array of concerts over six weeks. Music of Johann Sebastian Bach, including a two-concert appearance by Midori, who will perform all of Bach's unaccompanied Sonatas and Partitas; and Claude Debussy, on the 150th anniversary of his birth. Festival Fridays, Wednesday Upbeat! and Monday Sonatas concerts include works by many other great composers. Concerts range in price from FREE to $40. Second Friday ArtWalk - July 13
Every second Friday through October, from 5-8 pm, Five Rivers Art Alliance will host over 55 local Maine artists displaying their work at studios, galleries, and at pop up venues throughout Downtown Brunswick including Fort Andross, 98 Maine Street, the Captain Daniel Stone Inn and at the Inn at Brunswick Station. Onshore Offshore Show at Gallery Framing - July 13
Gallery Framing, 12 Pleasant Street, will host Onshore Offshore, a show featuring works of art by Jake Nicholson and Michael Boardman Friday, 5-8 pm as part of the Second Friday ArtWalk. Many of the pieces in this show were inspired by last summer's trips by sail (Jake) and kayak (Michael). Gallery Framing will also feature a members' group show this month titled Rhythm 'n Blue. Apres ArtWalk Concert with Arborea with special guest Greg Jamie - July 13
The Frontier will host Arborea, a husband and wife musical duo, Friday 8 pm. Buck Curran plays guitar, slide guitars, bowed strings, flutes, banjo, and vocals. Hello Nature - July 13 - October 21
The Bowdoin College Museum of Art will host Hello Nature, a comprehensive exhibition showcasing more than 30 years of work from William Wegman, including photographs, videos, paintings and drawings - all of which were produced in or inspired by the state of Maine. Rob Mermin's Circle of Sawdust - July 22
Hosted at the Frontier, presented by Merriconeag Waldorf School, and featuring Circus Smirkus Founder Rob Mermin, Circle of Sawdust is a multi-media one-man show. Through personal anecdotes, performance and rare film clips, Rob brings to life the mud, myths, mayhem, and magic of circus from someone who has seen it all and returned to tell the tales. All proceeds will benefit Merriconeag Waldorf School's Magic Matinee program that brings over 800 children-in-need to their Circus Smirkus shows in Freeport in early August. Bach, The Composer for All Times - July 28
Thornton Oaks, 25 Thornton Way, will host composer Samuel Adler from the Bowdoin International Music Festival on Saturday at 1:30 pm. Mr. Adler will discuss Bach's influence on composers from 1835 to the present and will provide recorded illustrations. Pear Trees for Peace Planting - August 1
Wednesday at 6:30 pm on the vacant lot at Mill and Cushing Streets, PeaceWorks will host a workshop and celebration as prelude to the 8th Annual Peace Fair. Two pear trees will be planted that will help beautify the area and also generate a perennial source of free food for residents and passersby. Theater Project Alumni Week - Aug 6 - 12
The Theater Project's 40th Anniversary Season concludes this summer with Alumni Week, which will include performances, concerts, book signings, and even a chance for alumni to get back on stage to rehearse and perform an improvisational show.
