Bowdoin International Music Festival - June 23 - August 4th
Distinguished classical musicians from renowned chamber groups, orchestras, conservatories, and extraordinary young musicians will be featured in a wide array of concerts over six weeks. Music of Johann Sebastian Bach, including a two-concert appearance by Midori, who will perform all of Bach's unaccompanied Sonatas and Partitas; and Claude Debussy, on the 150th anniversary of his birth. Joe Gallant with special guest Jay Biddy of This Way - June 30
Saturday at 8 pm the Frontier presents this 25 year old singer/guitarist, who has been compared to the likes of John Mayer, Dave Matthews and Jason Mraz. Gallant delivers a "full-bodied whisper of a voice" (Sam Pfeifle, Portland Phoenix) paired with a strikingly hopeful tone to his guitars. Welcome to Lee Maine - July 3
Welcome to Lee Maine is a film about a small close-knit community in rural Maine that must deal with devastating news that it has become the smallest community in America to lose two sons in the Iraqi War. Lee, Maine is a town with strong Christian, patriotic and traditional values that struggles to overcome its heartbreak. While many have very different views of the war, they are united in their support of the families and each other in their loss. The film will be shown at the Frontier, Tuesday at 7 pm. Maine Fiberarts in Topsham will be showing Architectural Elements: Hooked Rugs by Roslyn Logsdon starting July 6 through September 29. Baby Sitting and Home Alone Safety Class - July 7
Mid Coast Hospital's Baby Sitting and Home Alone Safety Class will be held on Saturday, from 8 am to 1 pm. This fun and interactive one-day class, for ages 11 and older, provides safety and first aid training, fire safety, choking prevention, safe discipline, household safety, and more. Hello Nature - July 13 - October 21
The Bowdoin College Museum of Art will host Hello Nature, a comprehensive exhibition showcasing more than 30 years of work from William Wegman, including photographs, videos, paintings and drawings - all of which were produced in or inspired by the state of Maine. Bach, The Composer for All Times - July 28
Thornton Oaks, 25 Thornton Way, will host composer Samuel Adler from the Bowdoin International Music Festival on Saturday at 1:30 pm. Mr. Adler will discuss Bach's influence on composers from 1835 to the present and will provide recorded illustrations. Moving Downtown Forward - July 30
The Master Plan Implementation Committee invites you to "Moving Downtown Forward: a public forum on improving walking, biking, driving, and parking in downtown Brunswick," Monday, 5:30-7:30 pm at the Hawthorne School Meeting Room. Provide your input on plans for Maine and Pleasant streets to calm traffic and make it more pleasant for bicyclists and pedestrians.
