On May 24th, Maine State Music Theater (MSMT) and Cool As A Moose were recognized as outstanding contributors to the historic preservation of commercial properties in Downtown Brunswick.

Maine State Music Theater (MSMT) transformed a Studebaker dealership, former bus depot, at Middle and Elm Streets into a functional office and production facility. A 'willing suspension of disbelief' on the part of the thespians, and designs by Douglas Richmond Architects, turned blight to bright spot. Separate buildings in yellow stucco and putty-colored cement are bridged in brick and pulled together with bright blue awnings. The MSMT complex is highly visible from Brunswick Station and Hannaford, and a fitting curtain call at the end of the Curtis Library block. Steve Peterson accepted the award for consolidating MSMT's rehearsal, set production, and office functions in Brunswick's hard-working Downtown core.

The Cool As A Moose flagship store and its wholesale production counterpart, Artforms, located at Town Hall Place and Maine Street, occupy a central location in Brunswick's past and present. Company founder, Kip Stone, was honored for bringing stylish sophistication to the dated 1960's Grand City building where Town Hall once stood and for including a safe and attractive passageway for pedestrians at the side of the building. Architect David Matero and other local partners brought the ambitious project through to completion. Artforms office and production staff will move in this fall, making it even more apparent that Life is Good in Downtown Brunswick.
