Greetings!
| We have so much to be thankful for on the 4th of July. I'm listening to the audiobook Washington's Crossing on my iPhone and highly recommend it! If you're looking for something patriotic to do besides watch fireworks, Hillsdale College is sponsoring the largest-ever nationwide reading of the Declaration of Independence on the 4th. I've signed up for my copy to read aloud with the Bobfather, and I hope you will, too. While you're there, check out their free monthly newsletter, Imprimis. |

| We love to share and this column is our little gift of favorite tidbits. This month's theme is Politics.
It has been surprisingly difficult to find a simple, easy calculator with meaningful results, such as historical returns of the S&P 500. That is, until I ran across a great little blog titled Political Calculations. This blog is not so much about politics as about quirky little formulas for, say, Should You Trade in Your Gas Guzzler? and the aforementioned S&P 500 Returns (be sure to select the "Dates of Interest" ONLY at the top).
Monday, I fortuitously landed on Congress.org when searching for an address. Not only did I find basic lists of contact info (including state and local officials), but bios include previous job, religious affiliation, and more. You can also find members by age, ethnicity, marital status, etc.
Finally, read and learn lots more about our three "Freedom Charters" at the online government archives.

Tip of the Month: The Emotion Quotient
|
Think of money and what comes to mind? Do you think of a number or dollar bill, or do pain and pleasure come to mind? There is a reason that our all-knowing God inspired Timothy to pen "The love of money is the root of all evil" rather than "Money is the root of all evil" as is often misquoted (1 Tim 6:10, emphasis added).
Our article this month is not about how to make more money. Instead, it's about taking a step back from the obvious and understanding the life-altering relationships we have about money.

(Almost) Famous Recipes of the Month: Red, White, and COLD!
|
As I wrap up today, we are "cooling" down to 97. While we can dress more comfortably at work, thank God that our power is on. It is so heartbreaking to see the corn shriveling on the stalks and we're praying for rain tomorrow. (At the golf course, the Bobfather is doing everything humanly possible to keep delicate bent grass from turning to baked greens - NOT a good recipe!)
Inspired by the heat - and the holiday - I turned to my recipe room. Not that I have a whole room stacked with recipes, but I pull a clever trick on myself after Christmas and carpeted the floor of the sun room with recipes. I thought this would force me to organize them online. At which point, the practical side of my brain woke up from its nap and told me to just shut the door. Six months later, the door still is shut. But who wants to visit a sun room in the summer, anyway? Yes, I digress, but I did find the perfect recipe to keep you cool and happy...

It's summer break, but turned our attention to school employees. That's because Michelle and I have become very interested in the retirement and money issues that school employees deal with and we now have a focus on state employees. That doesn't mean we are no longer working with the great clients we already have, just that we are growing! If you're a school employee and you'd like for us to do an employee presentation, please let us know. If you're a retired school/state employee, we offer a free initial appointment so come on in for an iced coffee and find out what we can do for you! Georganne F won last month's contest and in our monthly contest for clients and special friends, we had a slew of responses. Our winner was Valarie D from Paducah, who received her certificate by mail. Just pointing out that you can win no matter where you are, as long as you're on the ball!
As promised, the name's Bond...Bond Video. In last month's video we promised to tell you when recommend bonds. Find out for yourself below... Last but not least, it's our monthly reader Contest:
What regular feature is not in this month's newsletter?
The first person to email us or post the correct answer on FACEBOOK wins a $10 Amazon gift certificate!!! (Our August newsletter will have the solution to the mystery...)
