Greetings! | Everybody has a mother and we honor our moms in May. In case you need some inspiration, check out these meaningful Mother's Day videos:
This sweet video may bring a tear to your eye. And this digital Mother's Day card will help dry that tear (unless perhaps it reminds you of your own boys, as it does me and mine). Note, it's from 2006, but you'll know why its still funny today - like they say nothing is funnier than reality! We hope all of our readers have a joyous Mother's Day and, for those who can no longer be with their moms, joyous memories. By the way, in case you were wondering - it's a girl (no, not the elephant)! Eliza Jane Fox, 8lb 6oz, born, quite fittingly, on April 17, the 2012 due date for tax filing. Who knows? Little Eliza may be Nana's sole offspring who has taxes in her blood, if only symbolically. |
Fund Find(s) of the Month: Free-Range Fund
|
The captain of this month's fund calls himself a "free-range chicken" type of manager. Interesting. Does this mean he's a health-food fanatic or does his self-appointed nickname have a more meaningful connotation?
I'm sure you've heard the C.Y.A. disclaimer that past history doesn't guarantee future performance, but does that mean a manager's track record is irrelevant? Not in my opinion - when you've got a 19-year history. Find out how our manager's '"free-range" theory has helped to make this month's Fund Find of the Month successful!

Tip of the Month: 5 Reasons Trusts Aren't Just for Rich People
|
Trusts have many purposes, but they sound so mysterious that most people ignore their usefulness. While I'll admit that trust taxation is one of more complicated and misunderstood areas of financial planning, that doesn't mean that you should ignore their potential. We're going to drill down to the basic pointers with May's Tip of the Month - and you'll see that you don't have to lift your pinkie at afternoon tea to consider using a trust.

(Almost) Famous Recipes of the Month: Breakfast in Bed
|
Last weekend, we had some guests visit who were pretty much strangers to us. They were visiting on business and the Bobfather had offered our house in lieu of the local motel, which is kind of impersonal if you're trying to impress. You know how that goes - it's a crap shoot as to who you'll have to entertain. And the Mrs. was a vegetarian. Yikes!
Will and Kathryn turned out to be delightful and the perfect house-guests. I was so enthused about our new buddies that I whipped up this Classic Struesel Coffee Cake and it was a home-run. In addition to being scrumptious, this "from-scratch" breakfast is about as easy as it gets - what a great combo!
So...I got to thinking about Mother's Day. How nice would it be to present this goodie to your sweetheart (rosebud in vase optional but a nice touch)? You can even prepare it the night before and slide it into the oven the next morning - just add a few minutes to the cooking time. And Mom could be so impressed that she just might try to one-up you when Daddy's Day comes around. Just a thought.

Your May Recommended Resources:
I just got a text on my cell phone announcing that I "HAVE WON A $1,000 GIFT CERTIFICATE TO WALMART. JUST CLICK HERE!!!" What would you do? What I did was to go to the Report a Phone Number site to see if any other poor suckers - I mean "lucky" recipients - had received texts from this same phone number. All I had to do was enter the phone number that sent the text and I found comments from others who posted "This is a SPAM..." and "false claim." All these $1,000 winners...no wonder Walmart can't afford to keep more checkout lanes open.
Note that there are a lot of good links down the side of the above website, but I noticed that if you click on the "reverse number look-up", you are required to pay a fee for information. I've used AnyWho for years, where I am able to do reverse number (and other searches) - for free!Top of page

Last week, a Colorado client was visiting family in the area and we grabbed the opportunity for a face-to-face meeting. Dr. J is the kind of plain-spoken, level-headed kind of guy who makes what I do both pleasurable and rewarding. He paid me one of the best compliments I've ever received when he said "You're a brick-and-mortar kind of advisor." I was obviously a little puzzled by this comment, until he said, "You're the kind of person who it's easy to talk to...you're 'real' ". What a lovely thing to hear - not just from a client, but from anybody. I'm standing a little taller today and still glowing from his comment!
We're continuing our videos this month with the first of a two-part series. Click on the picture to see what I've got to say about bonds and risk.
