Make this YOUR year for Fiscal Fitness!

Greetings!

Pinscher St. Patrick's Day is a kind of wacky, anyone and anything goes kind of holiday. Back in the stone age (60's and 70's), we were pinched if we didn't wear green to school. Today's schools specialize in Readin', Writin', and Ritalin and threaten to banish pinchers for "sexual harassment". (Yes, that's a clever picture of a Doberman Pin(s)cher to the left.) Whatever way you choose to spend St. Patrick's Day, we wish you a heaping measure of good luck - and pinch at your own risk!

Fund Find(s) of the Month: Year of the Dragon?

Year of the Dragon The Year of the Dragon began on January 23, 2012. The Dragon is the fifth sign in the Chinese Horoscope and signifies luck. And who doesn't need a little luck in investing? Somewhere in the back of my twisted mind, the luck of the Irish is a great accompaniment - just don't ask me to explain it. So, we're heading East (far East) to chat about a fund with great track record - good luck!

Tax refund

If you're expecting a check in the mail from Uncle Sam this year, is it luck or bad planning? Maybe neither! (Almost) Famous Recipes of the Month: Channeling the Sailor Man

You'll be relieved to know that I can think beyond green eggs and ham, green beer, and green food dye for Saint Patrick's Day! We're thinking natural green this month. Let's just say Popeye would be proud.

Good old Popeye got all of us to eat our spinach in the 60's. In fact, sister Barbara once even got to be on The Popeye Show in Paducah. I still haven't gotten over being left behind. Seriously.

Spinach served plain may not be at the top of everybody's

menu request but we're talking about a very friendly veggie. Its bright green leaves are quite happy to be paired up with cheese and yummy spices and give you all the credit when you get ooh's and ahh's at your next party. This month, we have you a winning spinach-as-side-dish and a lip-smackin' spinach-orange salad with roots somewhere on an internet blog. Let the other lads and lassies serve green popcorn and such. Hold your head up and celebrate with authenticity this year. Erin go bragh!

Cabbage, moolah, dough, dead presidents...we're talking money this month! Just as our Tip of the Month is all about making wise choices with your income tax refund, we're adding resources to gently move you toward accountability. Spendster is a fun site, kind of a 12-step program for people who need help keeping their money in their pants (pocket). Users have a lot of fun in letting it all hang out. Using a tag line "Show Us Your Stuff", you're treated to the video link for "Confessions: Where Does All My Money Go?" at login. Hard-core spenders post videos confessing the details of poor money decisions and you can add your own horror stories if you feel inclined. Take polls and read helpful articles, knowing you're in the company of others who have been through what you're experiencing.

On a more serious note, check out the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE), the only private, nonprofit, national foundation wholly dedicated to improving the financial well-being of all Americans. NEFEis packed with resources including help for consumers, resources for educators, and a program for high-schoolers

In Closing...

Michelle and I just returned from Atlanta where we spent a fast trip crammed with learning new social media tricks from marketing maven Marie Swift. Since we got stuck in one-hour traffic jams both ways, there was plenty of time for us to discuss saving the world and bounce business ideas back and forth.

With Marie's encouragement, we hope to take the leap into video very soon. In fact, by next month, we may have a few video comments to supplement our writing. Only one month to get the twang out of my voice - is it possible? We'll see, but you may just have to live with it same as our long-suffering team members! Please wish us luck as we begin our new venture into "talkies"!
