Greetings! | 2010: Was it a good year for you? We can report that many of our clients are glad it's in the rear-view mirror. The silver lining is the feeling of optimism permeating the atmosphere around here. Clients are saying, "We made it through intact, polished up our attitudes, and are RESOLVED to have a better 2011 - bring it on!" I must say the feeling is mutual - although 2010 was a fair year for us, seeing clients nurture their businesses through way too many rough patches has been a sobering experience. We are resolved to help you MAKE the MOST of 2011 - bring it on!!!

Fund FINDS of the Month: International Intrigue
| It has been brought to our attention that we have not recommended any international funds. Your patience is about to be rewarded because we're going to review two such funds this month. By the way, I've had clients hesitate to invest in places they've never been, kind of like it's anti-American. I don't happen to share that view since Americans merely took "exchange" ideas from other countries and perfected them. I believe you ignore the international sector at your peril - it has been quite good to investors (who have known where to look) for years. Read more

TIP of the Month: Navigating Morningstar Part II
| Last month, we introduced new users to the Morningstar website. Even though nobody sent in a question this month, we've got Part Deuce. Even if you think you know Morningstar, check out this article for a couple of neat tips to help you judge fund-owning-worthiness yourself! Read more

Almost-Famous Recipe of the Month: Easy Chicken and Dumplings | [Editor's Note: Last month after publishing the Snack Mix recipe, I headed to Wal-Mart to purchase the ingredients to stock up for my Christmas batch. Would you believe all of the "no-brand" items I used in the recipe were sold out? Some of you must have taken the BIG batch concept seriously. Sigh...I may pay a high price for being (almost) famous, but it's worth it...almost.]
There are two main camps of chicken and dumpling lovers. One side insists that the dumplings be fat, fluffy, and "brothy". The other prefers a thin dumpling made from rolled-flat pieces of dough, bubbling and velvety of a "fat-noodle" consistency. I can take them either way, as long as I don't have to make the dumplings (even if they're out of Bisquick). The "recipe" I prefer when I make dumplings, however, requires only one secret ingredient and a pizza cutter. Since it came from my dear, farm-raised Gran-gran, I know they are legitimate dumplings. In honor of the start of tax season, snow, freezing temperatures (and Gran-gran), here's a delicious one-pot dish that will satisfy the whole family. We give you a couple of options: after-work-quick or Saturday make-the-kitchen-smell-fantastic-all-day style. Recipe

Hatch a bigger, better nest egg
| Did you make your Roth conversion? We think several clients may have converted just to shut us up so we could (finally) mosey on to a new topic - and we're doing that now. Actually, a few days ago, a client asked us a question about saving for retirement that was so obvious, we had completely overlooked it in trying to get out the news about more "important", "complicated" topics. In fact, you could say it was one of those, "Well, DUH" moments to myself. Read more...

Last month, we received a really cool email from Corey S., one of our Nashville clients. With his permission, we are reprinting part of it: "I am very thankful to have you providing this service, it feels like I've finally found someone who I can trust to just "do their thing." This is one area that I don't know too much about, and it's nice to have someone who seems like they care (It's like when you find a car mechanic that you feel you can really trust)."
Now, really, how can you NOT just love a client who compares you to a trustworthy car mechanic? Honestly, that's about the best compliments I've ever received; we're so glad Corey allowed us to share. Are you looking for a good mechanic? Call or email to schedule a complimentary 10-point checkup of your financial plan. We may not give out free floor mats, but we serve a mean cuppa Joe!
Sincerely,
