Coon Dog Day!
It's July in Saluda and that can mean only one thing - Coon Dog Day is
upon us! 10-15,000 people will descend on Saluda Saturday, July 9th. Autumn Care of Saluda is a major sponsor of Coon Dog Day activities this year. Here's a look at all the things that Autumn will bring to the day of festivities.

Coon Dog Day 5K -If you have friends who are runners, this is a great way for them to start the day. Parking will be at the Smokey Mountain Jamboree and the race will start and end near Autumn Care. This is a certified race, so 200-300 runners are expected. Registration begins at 6:30 am.
Coon Dog Day Parade - This is one of the highlights of the day. Anyone who shows up can be in the parade and it's always fun to see all the creativity. Autumn Care will have four vehicles in the parade, including the Autumn Care Coon Dog Day King and Queen and our new Autumn Care Mobile Rehab Unit! The parade starts at 11:00 am but you'll need to stake out your spot early.
Autumn Care Rehab Cooling Unit - Yes, it's always hot on Coon Dog Day, but Autumn Care hopes to rehab all those baked bodies by running them through our Rehab Cooling Unit.It will be located near the library, so plan to stop by and cool off.
Autumn Care Information Tent - Stop by and visit us at our Information Tent located near the library. We'll have Rehab Demonstrations and information on all types of issues facing those needing elder rehab. Better yet, just come and sit with us awhile in the shade.

Raffle - The Activities Department will hold a raffle for some great Autumn Corporation items. Raffle tickets are $1.00 and you do not have to be present to win. Even better, with every raffle ticket purchased you will receive an Autumn Care Manual Cooling Unit, better known as a church fan. We anticipate that the "Manual Cooling Units" will be in great demand, especially as the day gets hotter, so visit our booth early to purchase your raffle ticket and get your "Manual Cooling Unit."
It's going to be a fun day and we hope you will join our staff and residents for the biggest day of the year in Saluda!

Food from Home
The food at Autumn Care of Saluda rates pretty high on the list of pluses for our facility, but let's face it; a little something from home or your favorite restaurant canreally hit the spot. It's fine for you to bring outside food to your loved one as long as you keep in mind a few rules.
· Any food brought from home or other location outside the facility must be prepared in advance. Our Dietary Department is not allowed to help with any kind of preparation of items brought in according to Health Department regulations. You'll need to cut those fresh cantaloupes and watermelons at home before bringing them in.
· If you bring more than a single serving and want to leave something for your family member to have later, it must be stored in a plastic container and have the resident's name and the date it was brought in clearly marked.
By following these simple steps we can ensure the food safety of all our residents.

Four Medicare Myths That
Could Cost You Money
Misconceptions about Medicare, the popular health care program for seniors are rampant. Here are four myths that can cost you some real money.
Myth #1: Medicare provides free or cheap health care. Not exactly. The reality is that while preventive care is now free, you will have co-pays, deductibles, etc., when using Parts B and D. Also if you are a high wage earner you will pay a surcharge for coverage
Myth #2: Medicare covers everything. That's false. Medicare does not cover dental care, hearing aids and long-term care. It also does not cover medical services when you travel internationally.
Myth # 3: You can delay signing up for Medicare Part B if you have Cobra or retiree health benefits. The reality is that you could face a 10% premium penalty for each 12 month period you wait to enroll, plus face a waiting period that makes you temporarily uninsured.
Myth # 4: You have no recourse if you suspect Medicare wrongly penalized you for enrolling too late. That's false. There are a variety of groups such as the Medicare Rights Center that can help you appeal for relief. Be careful to write down the names of the people you talk to while question a decision. It will be useful information should you have to apply for "equitable relief."
