TCM newWith the current  "Go Green" movement that is sweeping industries all over the world, the material handling industry is no different. Many are converting from their LP gas and diesel lifts over to electric. With this change there are new safety concerns that have to be addressed. The following is a compliance publication by the State of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin that gives a thorough outline of the precautions and protocols associated with working with Lead Acid Batteries.

Before you even start looking at forklift you need to determine exactly what you need the forklift to do.
  • How heavy and what size are your typical loads?
  • How high do you need to lift the load?
  • Will you be using it indoors, outdoors, or both?.
  • How much room do you have to maneuver? How wide are your narrowest aisles?
  • How many hours a day will it be used?

These answers will help you determine exactly what kind of forklift you will need.
Buying a forklift does not have to be a monumental capital expenditure. In certain material handling situations, a used forklift makes fiscal sense. Consider buying a used forklift if:

  • The truck will be used for a single shift.
  • The forklift will be used for no more than four hours a day.
  • The forklift will work no more than five days per week.
  • The operation is not a high-throughput, nonstop type.
