OSHAOSHA Tip
A daily, pre-shift inspection of your powered industrial truck is required by OSHA standards. Documentation of these checks must kept and presented to OSHA officials  upon request.  Below we have a link to the web page with rules and examples of inspection checklist for both IC and Electric trucks. Contact your Tri-Lift representative if you have any questions or need help with forklift compliance. 336-691-1511

Safety Operating Rules

There are far too many safe operating rules to list them all here. But these are some basic rules for operators embodied in the Powered Industrial Truck (PIT)  standard:

  •  Wear a seat belt
  • Report any PIT damage or problems right away
  • Don't jump from an overturning, sit-down type PIT, but rather stay with the truck, holding on firmly and leaning in the opposite direction of the overturn.
  • Use extreme caution on grades or ramps
  • Don't raise or lower forks while the PIT is moving
  • Don't handle loads heavier than the weight capacity of the lift.
  • Operate a PIT at a speed that will permit it to be stopped safely.
  • Slow down and sound the horn at cross aisle and other locations where vision is obstructed.
  • Look toward the travel path and keep a clear view of it.
  • Set the parking brake, lower the forks or lifting carriage, and neutralize the controls before dismounting.
  • Don't use PIT to elevate workers standing on the forks.

These and many more are taught in Operators Training classes. Contact Tri-Lift today if your operators are not certified or up for renewal. 366-691-1511
