Motivational Tips for Achieving Your Long Term Fitness Goals

Beginning a new exercise routine is similar to beginning a new romance. Everything is exciting. You may invest in a NYC personal trainer, buy new exercise equipment and formulate a diet and fitness plan. Then, weeks later, working out with your NYC personal trainer is no longer new and exciting. Your nutritious meals don't seem as tasty and you find you have to force yourself to get on your new equipment. Exercise and being fit is no longer fun, it's become work. The shine has worn off and the romance has ended.

What do you do in a case such as this? You know you need to exercise. You know you have long-term fitness goals you need to reach. It's become such a chore though and you find yourself making excuses to your personal trainer and to yourself.

What you need is a little motivation. Here are seven tips to keep you motivated so you can reach your long-term fitness goals.

1. Realize that Achieving Your Fitness Goals is Work

It is normal to feel tired and burnt-out. However, as with any job, and yes, taking care of yourself is a job, you have to work through this feeling. Set your appointment with your personal trainer and keep it.

Set aside a specific portion of the day for your exercise routine and keep it. You are more likely to exercise if you have a specific time period set.

2. Make It Enjoyable

While exercise is work, it can still be fun. If you feel your routine has become stale or boring, ask your personal trainer to switch it up. Maybe you need a more intense workout. Perhaps all you need is a new playlist. Tell your personal trainer how you are feeling and allow him or her to work with you.

3. Share Your Results Publicly

Sharing your results publicly makes you accountable to others. If you have a Facebook account or a Google plus account or Twitter, post your results and schedule. You certainly don't want to post you didn't show up for your workout.

4. Celebrate Your Successes

Celebrate your successes, but step away from the mindset that food is a reward. Treat yourself to tickets to a sporting event or movie. Buy a new book or a new mp3 player. Make sure you get yourself something you enjoy, but also ensure it is nothing harmful to your goals.

5. Remember There Are No Shortcuts

You are not going to wake up one morning and find yourself suddenly fit and trim overnight. Realize that every happy, healthy body takes work and commit yourself to the work. Do make sure your goals are realistic. Also, make sure you are giving your body the realistic amount of time it needs to make the changes you are striving towards.

6. Look Back

No matter how long you've been working out with a personal trainer, your body is going through positive changes. Looking back on your recent accomplishments can also be a motivational look into the future.
  • Have you lost weight?
  • Are your muscles getting toned?
  • Do you have more energy?
  • Are you more mentally alert?
These are just some of the changes regular exercise contributes to improved health.

7. Utilize Your Personal Trainer

Have your personal trainer meet you at home, work or the gym. Talk to him or her and explain your struggles. NYC personal trainers are a valuable resource and motivational tool. Your personal trainer can help you work your exercise routine into your schedule. Additionally, your personal trainer can answer any questions you may have and can provide tips to help you reach your fitness goals.

Review Your Current Training Program

Please let me, or your personal trainer, know if you would like to review your current exercise program.

Please call us at 212-586-7160 if we can be of any additional assistance in helping you achieve your health and wellness goals.

Sincerely,
