Houston Children's Charity is dedicated to enhancing the lives of underpriviledged, handicapped, and abused children in the Houston community. To help steer HCC's goal in the right direction Executive Director, Laura Ward, and the Houston Children's Charity Board of Directors founded the Chariots for Children Van Program. Since it began in 1996, HCC has been providing vehicles to agencies around Houston who, like HCC, are on a mission to help Houston's special children. Since its inception, 83 vans and 3 trucks have been awarded to 64 agencies and 2 individual families!
Making It Better wishes to thank Houston Children's Charity for their generosity and for awarding us with this incredible gift!
Making It Better aims to address the severe disadvantages faced by at-risk children in the Houston area by offering a variety of programs that are tailored to meet the needs of each program. Whether the program is academic or enrichment, delivered during or after school, on a school campus or in an apartment-based program; MIB's overarching goal is always the same . . . developing relationships and improving self-esteem by sparking creativity, fostering the desire to succeed, developing social skills, and expanding life experiences.
Our after school program, Steps 2 Success, is designed to help students develop leadership and positive relationship skills, while providing them with a wide variety of experiences that otherwise, they would not have the opportunity to encounter. Taking part in new experiences is a big part of our after school program and a great way to "expand their world" . . . trips to various fine arts venues, local universities, and multiple locations where the kids can serve their community will be much easier with our new van!
