Proceeds from the evening benefit Making It Better (MIB), a Houston area non-profit established to improve the quality of life for low income, at-risk children by offering them academic intervention, positive activities and role models. MIB was founded in 2006 by Jerry Davis, a former Westside High School Dean of Students and head lacrosse coach, to address the severe disadvantages faced by low income children in the Houston area. MIB offers a variety of programs that are tailored to meet the needs of each campus. Whether the program is academic or enrichment, delivered during or after school, on a school campus or in an apartment-based program; MIB's overarching goal is always the same...developing relationships and improving self-esteem by sparking creativity, fostering the desire to succeed, developing social skills, and expanding life experiences. |
