Rivera Cuale-PEACE Community Garden Groundbreaking
Saturday, February 5th was a great day at Rivera Cuale that saw members of the community come together to break ground in our onsite Rivera Cuale-PEACE Community Garden (also named the Huerta Educativa Rivera Cuale-PEACE). Locals and expatriates, young and old, hefted shovels and picks to break up and turn the soil in our designated riverfront garden space. Over the next couple of weeks leading up to the fundraiser garden party on February 27th, volunteers will work further to prepare the land for the local school groups to start planting and learning about sustainable food growth, composting, nutrition, care for the environment and community building.

Life in a Traditional Mexican Colonia
by Estelle Eisen and Marie Talbot, Rivera Cuale
Rivera Cuale is located in a residential Colonia, a traditional Mexican neighborhood.
The most striking aspect of living in Rivera Cuale's Colonia versus a touristic area is being allowed to explore, to come to understand the pride of culture, the mentality, the warmth, and the smiles of the Mexican people, often despite economic hardships, and to respect them as strong survivors. They will share whatever they have with you as their friend. Coming from a much more closed society in the north, I very much appreciate the easygoing lifestyle and the 'live and let live' mentality of the Mexicans. In addition to all the magic a Colonia has to offer I was able to perfect my Spanish. Mexican people are kind and gentle in helping you learn if you try to speak to them in their language.
I would like to share with you my personal experience as an expat living here in a traditional Vallarta Colonia for the last 20 years. I want to emphasize that with this experience, I know I could never entertain any other way of living.

A Taste of Spain at Rivera Cuale on March 5th
Sample some of Mexico's heritage with a taste of Spain! On Saturday, March 5th join Rivera Cuale and co-host Pincho & Olé Tapas Lounge for a dazzling evening on the riverfront! Watch as the Spanish owner of Pincho & Olé prepares a delicious paella, a traditional rice dish that originated centuries ago in the Valencia region on the east coast of Spain. He will explain each of the steps to make an authentic paella as he prepares the dish in a giant recipient called a "paellera" - and then, you can eat! He will also be bringing his exquisite house sangria for you to enjoy!
This fantastic evening will be a fundraiser, with proceeds going directly to the onsite Rivera Cuale-PEACE Community Garden to get it off to a good start. A minimum donation of $50 pesos gets you in to Rivera Cuale, and cash bar will be available for sangria, beer and wine. We will soon email you an invitation with more details, so watch for it so you can RSVP!
