According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 3.1 million non fatal workplace injuries and illnesses were reported among private industry employers in 2010.  Are your employees protected?
 
Steps for a safe workplace:
  • Perform a hazard assessment of basic hazards that can occur in your workplace

    • Penetration Hazards
    • Compression (roll-over) hazards
    • Chemical hazards
    • Heat hazards
    • Dust hazards
    • Optical radiation hazards
    • Electrical hazards
  • Perform a walk-through and assess the layout of the work area and the location of employees in relation to the hazards
  • Organize & analyze the information that was gathered from the walk-through in order to assess the potential for injuries
  • Determine what engineering controls are needed in order to prevent the hazards from injuring employees
  • Select Personal Protective Equipment which can be worn that will offer protection to employees from the hazards in their work area
  • Have employees properly fitted with PPE for both comfort & protection
  • Be sure that employees are aware of any limitations of their PPE
  • Train employees on the proper use of PPE
  • Reassess the work area for new hazards periodically
  • Educate employees to have their PPE inspected, maintained and properly cleaned for the safest performance of their equipment
