| Safe Employees Are Productive Employees
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 3.1 million non fatal workplace injuries and illnesses were reported among private industry employers in 2010. Are your employees protected?
Steps for a safe workplace:
- Perform a hazard assessment of basic hazards that can occur in your workplace
- Impact Hazards
 - Penetration Hazards
- Compression (roll-over) hazards
- Chemical hazards
- Heat hazards
- Dust hazards
- Optical radiation hazards
- Electrical hazards
- Perform a walk-through and assess the layout of the work area and the location of employees in relation to the hazards
- Organize & analyze the information that was gathered from the walk-through in order to assess the potential for injuries
- Determine what engineering controls are needed in order to prevent the hazards from injuring employees
- Select Personal Protective Equipment which can be worn that will offer protection to employees from the hazards in their work area
- Have employees properly fitted with PPE for both comfort & protection
- Be sure that employees are aware of any limitations of their PPE
- Train employees on the proper use of PPE
- Reassess the work area for new hazards periodically
- Educate employees to have their PPE inspected, maintained and properly cleaned for the safest performance of their equipment
