5 Easy Rules for Parents to live by!

Many area leagues and organizations will open up their 2011 season this weekend.  Everyone here at Big Leagues wishes you the best of luck for a healthy and successful season.  The feeling of putting on the uniform for the first time in a season is a memory every kid will remember for the rest of their lives.  Last weekend we had the opportunity to host a pre-season tournament.  After 3 full days of baseball games I had the chance to watch, listen and speak with a lot of parents.  I learned some valuable lessons from some great people over the weekend...

What should I eat?

You are playing in a tournament and have 2 or maybe three games in a day.  You just got home from school and have to run off to the ball field for practice.

The most important thing is you have to eat and keep it simple.  Just like your car needs gas, your body needs fuel too.  Fruits and veggies are always great options but when they are not available what is the next best thing? What can I get on the run?

Good old fashioned peanut butter and jelly is great, you get your protein and carbs and a little fat.  Same thing with chocolate milk and water and electrolytes.  One thing your food should not be is an experiment, keep with foods you like and you eat all the time.  Avoid the candy bars and sodas, you may think they give you energy but in the end it will only zap your energy. Just make sure you eat, even just a little something with a little bit from each group (protein, carbs and yes, fat too).  Its not rocket science just some good preparation and time management.
