"Fly"tilla Protesters

This Sunday, April 15, European and Palestinian activists are staging a "flytilla" at Israel's Ben Gurion airport.

As part of their  "Welcome to Palestine" campaign, organizers are attempting to have 1,500 people arrive simultaneously to "challenge the Israeli siege of the occupied territories."

This follows a similar attempt last July when 300 people arrived at Ben Gurion and caused minor disruptions, with 120 detained by Israeli authorities.

The goal of this campaign - similar that of the Gaza flotillas and the recent "Global March on Jerusalem" - is to generate intensive negative media coverage of Israel through provocation.

There is debate of course as to whether this constitutes a peaceful protest and should be allowed - as organizers claim - or whether a group causing ANY kind of disruption at ANY airport in the world would be detained for such actions.

Israeli officials argue that any country would detain any group who decided to protest in this way in an airport (shout, disrupt movement, or cause a disruption of any kind).  This would most certainly be the case at any airport in the US.

Stay tuned to how the media covers this event and whether the all too frequent double standard is used against Israel yet again.

Major Powers Begin Talks
On Nuclear Iran
Major powers will hold their first first talks with Iran in more than a year, hoping Tehran will give enough ground over its nuclear program to continue negotiations and avert the threat of a Middle East war.

Iran sent encouraging signals Monday on the posture it will take, dropping objections to meeting in Istanbul and hinting at a possible compromise on its uranium enrichment program that Western powers fear is aimed at producing nuclear weapons.

We will be following this story closely as developments at these talks will reveal a great deal about international policy toward Iran in the coming months.
