Taste the Rainbow
Here in Oregon this week, the trees look like they've been sculpted of ice.  The grey skies of January make me want to add color to my knitting!  Here are some ideas to brighten up your days, as well as your projects.

Liberty Wool Patterns

Liberty Wool Prints are back in stock, with new colors coming for the new year!  We just received Rainforest, shown below right, and we'll have more new colors over the next few months.

Two of the most popular patterns from the Liberty Wool book are the Molly Ruffle Scarf, using 4 balls (shown here in Sunrise), and the Elizabeth cardigan, using 10-13 balls (shown here in Cloudy Dawn).

Noro Love
A color issue wouldn't be complete without mentioning Noro Yarns, the standard for imaginative color combinations. Noro's newest yarns are highlighted in the new book "Noro Love" by Jane Ellison.

Cover sweater "Esme" uses 5-6 balls of Kogarashi, the new bulky weight wool/silk blend. This design takes the bulky yarn and tailors it to a sleek, slim fitting layer for spring.

Noro King Yarn
King is a new fingering weight yarn from Noro that blends wool, silk, acrylic, and mohair for a sturdy yet soft fabric.

Little Venus (below left) can be knit for ages 1-10 years using only 2-3 balls, and is a great layering piece for the spring and summer.

My other favorite garment is Amanda (below right), a cascading short-sleeved cardigan.  This item takes 6-7 skeins and is knit holding 2 strands together for a more densely knit fabric.

Katie's Sweater

Colourscape Chunky by Rowan will have you knitting all night to see what color will be next.  Designer Kaffe Fassett brings us clever color combinations in this striping yarn.  I knitted up Lilly in just a few weeks on US 10 ½ needles, and this easy pattern was a no-thought-required knitting project.  The vibrant colors of the vest (shown in Jungle 447) match every shirt in my closet, and I'm having fun mixing it up with different shawl pin closures.  Next, I am casting on one of the three classic designs for men featured in this book for a quick knit to give to my cold sweetie here in frozen Oregon.
