Gift wrapping to support Austin Dog Alliance
| It's time! One of our most important fundraisers of the year, and an opportunity to donate to a great cause while having one of those must-do tasks on your holiday list completed.
 | |
Members of last year's super gift wrap team will be at Lakeline Mall again this year. So, don't wrap your gifts! Let us do it for you.
|
ADA will be at Lakeline Mall December 9/10 & 16/17 for our annual holiday gift-wrapping fundraiser. We have everything on hand to make your gift look professional and perfect: Wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, gift tags, and other special touches designed to impress!
Some of our therapy dogs will be on hand as well to spread holiday cheer to Lakeline shoppers.
We'll wrap while you wait, or you can drop off your gifts, shop some more, and come back to pick up your items. Your donations at our gift wrapping fundraiser help fund our outreach programs all year long. Thanks for your support!

Does Your Dog Have C.L.A.S.S. ?
| Launch of new social and life skills training program
In 2011, the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) launched a new program to provide basic training and obedience skills for dog owners.
The program, Canine Life and Social Skills (C.L.A.S.S.), uses positive reinforcement techniques to teach proper behavior and manners, enabling pets to accompany owners to dog-friendly public places such as outdoor restaurant patios, hotels, and retail stores. C.L.A.S.S. gives pet owners the value of practical training, such as how to introduce a dog to strangers. At the end of C.L.A.S.S. training, a dog is evaluated by an APDT professional and can achieve a C.L.A.S.S. certification of BA, MA, or PhD, depending on the level of skills attained. In an APDT press release, APDT Executive Director Mychelle Blake explained "This program educates pet owners and gives them the tools they need to not only provide good canine manners, but include the dog in more types of activities. Without proper training, these leisure activities can be stressful for both dog and owner. A well-trained dog is a happier dog." For more information on APDT's C.L.A.S.S. program, visit MyDogHasClass. Austin Dog Alliance is one of the first training organizations in the area to offer C.L.A.S.S. training and evaluation. The BA level includes training on dog body language and basic care, as well as skills including: Wait at the door, come, leashing up, loose leash walking, polite people greetings, roll-over, spin and shake, leave it, stay, settle, give and take, and wait for the food bowl. ADA's pilot program starts January, 2012. The class consists of six one-hour weekly sessions. You can read more about the pilot and enroll here. |

Adoptable Dogs
|
 | |
Hi, I'm Rico. I love sitting in your lap, keeping you company, and showing off the skills I learned in training class. I'm looking for my forever home.
|
Rico is seven pounds of pure sweetness, and those big brown eyes reflect all the unconditional love he has to share. He was rescued from a shelter, and look at him now: He's attended puppy class to hone his basic commands like "sit" and "come", and he socializes well with people, other puppies, and adult dogs. Rico loves to cuddle up in your lap or spend time in his crate/den playing with toys. Rico and our other adoptable dogs are currently living in foster homes and are ready to be adopted into their forever homes and families. Learn more about Rico and other adoptable dogs in ADA foster care here.
