Letter from the Executive Director
Rozi - Debi's Aussie Puppy
Rozi in Bluebonnets

Puppies. Puppies. Puppies.  Nothing is more adorable than a puppy.  We have nine 7-week old puppies that appear to be some type of herding breed mix.  Half look like German Shepherds and half look like Australian Shepherds.

These pups were whelped in the foster home of Rhywnn, a long time volunteer who delights in giving Mama dogs and their pups a great start in life.  Rhywnn keeps the little family in her bedroom and often sits in the whelping box to read books.

When selecting a new puppy, you should ask yourself at least these four questions.  1).  Do the breed characteristics fit in with my lifestyle.  2).  Has the pup had a good start in life?  3).  Do the parents of the puppy have a good temperment?  4).  Am I committed to training and socializing this puppy?  Austin Dog Alliance can answer yes to questions 2 and 3.  You will need to decide question 1 and 4 for yourself.  We can offer you a great puppy training class, but you need to be committed to working with your pup.

If you are looking for a new puppy this summer, you can meet our litter on June 5 from 11 - 1 at the Hill Country Galleria, Suite 0-125 (near Dick's Sporting Goods).  We are also having an open house for our new training space.  So please join us for some puppy kisses, meet our instructors, have a few snacks and enjoy a small craft project.  Puppies will be ready to go home on June 16, after their first FREE Puppy Head Start training class, a spay or neuter and age appropriate shots.

Our lucky K9 Kids summer campers will get to play with the pups during camp.  Don't you wish there were dog camps when you were that age?

Enjoy your summer,

Fundraiser for Autism and Pet Therapy Programs Fetching Art -  Thursday, June 24th
Art_Logo_2010Did you know that Austin Dog Alliance provided over 30 FREE presentations to local schools last year?  Did you know that we coordinate the volunteer activities of 75 pet therapy teams in over 35 locations?  Did you know that we are developing a ground breaking program with the University of Texas using therapy dogs to help children with autism learn social skills?  WE NEED COMMUNITY SUPPORT to provide these services.

Come join us for some fun and frivolity with Canine Inspired cocktails!  Try a "Doggie-politan," "fur-tini," and "rex-on-the-beach!"

We will also have live music, art demonstrations, a silent auction for art and gift baskets, appetizers and door prizes.  This is a 21 and over event.  No dogs, no kids.  Just grown up fun.

Join Us for Yappy Hour at Hub Restaurant

hub logoYou've heard the story about a tourist in New York City, asking a stranger on the street for directions to Carnegie Hall, right?  The stranger turned out to be a world renown classical musician who quickly replied:  "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?  Practice. Practice. Practice."

While scratching myself, next to the fire hydrant on the corner, some mutt came up and asked me for directions...so...I told him:  "How do you get to Fetching Art?  Practice. Practice. Practice."
