Soul Train Line at the Kennedy Center

Greetings!

In the Soul Train Line, a couple sometimes danced down an aisle created by other dancers, showing their stuff. I used to watch the TV with fascination: In life, I'd never be able to do that, much less even have the nerve to try. Many of those nights, I saw soul-train lines live, when my husband and I went  to Chicago's south and west side soul and blues clubs. I treasure those memories.

So, like many of you, I'm saddened by the passing of Soul Train's creator, Don Cornelius, who brought such great joy to so many. But, he also brought a great message.

Coincidentally, I shared that message in a piece of mine published the afternoon before Mr. Cornelius died. It was in a clip of James Brown, singing "I'm Black and I'm Proud," on Soul Train, back in the day.  I referenced the clip as part of a piece about President Obama and the Rev. Al Sharpton -- in their very own Soul Train Line at the Kennedy Center --celebrating another great soul: Dr. King. I hope you'll click here and read it.

Best wishes.
