For sure, the dog days of summer are here. I can feel it with every call I make. Does anyone really want to work? I don't think so. Nevertheless, we slog along.
Well, I've got a plan: If you feel like leaving the slog for a few, here are three recent pieces of mine I hope you'll read.
All are about women in politics, which seems fitting for this month when we celebrate the anniversary of American women's suffrage.
First: Do you ever wonder what shape our nation would be in, if women were running it, as *Beyonce' suggests in her latest? (See title of this e-mail.) Why do women run for office? Here is what I had to say a few weeks ago in Hufffington Post Women.
Then, I wrote a piece about the un-elected, at least in a literal sense, but oh-so-powerful, First Ladies "who run this motha" (or don't), as the case may be. Read here.
Last, I wrote a piece about two incredibly inspirational women: Toni Preckwinkle, first elected woman President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, (Bobbie Steele was appointed to the position), and my eldest niece, Caitlin Sive, now a nationally-recognized chef at the ripe old age of 23. They have a lot in common, I'm delighted to report.
Happy trails, notwithstanding that, if you're reading this, you're probably not at the beach.
Rebecca
