The award recognizes clueless political guys.
In the past, I've given it to Senator John Kyl (R, AZ), for his incredibly dumb and insensitive remarks during the debate over health care reform. Fortunately, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D, MI) was there to call him on it.
Another time, I gave the award to Senator Kyl's Senate colleagues, inspired by the great Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker, who had this to say about the clueless male senators listening to the brilliant (now Supreme Court Justice) Sonia Sotomayor:
"Senators also hammered Sotomayor about her ethnic identification and whether she could rule fairly without undue influence from her gender or political preferences. Wait, let me guess, you're white guys! [sic] Are we to infer that men of European descent are never unduly influenced by their own ethnicity, gender or political preferences: Can anyone affirm this assertion with a straight face?"
This week, the White Men Can't Jump award goes to all those male political reporters and pundits who Sarah Palin drove crazy on her bus tour last week. Rolling thunder, indeed: they were thunderous in their disdain for Palin's failure to follow their protocols.
Now, as I say in this Huffington Post Politics piece of mine, I'm not a fan of Sarah Palin, but chutzpah ("the quality of audacity," according to Wikipedia) does have its place, and she sure has it. The rest of us girls can learn something from her in this department. Read here.
