Hi,
In the last edition of the Second Cup I shared with you the mantra 'Own The Suck' as a way to grab hold of the pain of change and control IT versus IT controlling you.
The timing of that message intentionally coincided with the after-glow of the holiday season when your engagement to your motivational drivers was most likely very fresh.
So, here we are, several weeks down the road and there's a good likelihood that the engagement to your motivation may be getting a bit stale. As we get further away from the holidays, I encourage you to be mindful of just how powerful old habits and familiar thought patterns are.
Often times, those old habits can subtly creep back into our minds in incremental ways that don't even hit our radar screen on a daily basis. If we're not diligent and mindful of them, they can very rapidly take control and derail us from achieving our goals.
You've no doubt heard the phrase 'think outside the box'. Whether we are facing a set of near year resolutions or making the transition to a new leadership role in our organization, change requires thinking that is different from the what was (the box). And while this is an important first step - it's not the full solution.
Not only must you THINK outside the box, but you have to actually DESTROY the box. You have to make it go away, no longer a viable or even possible option.
Otherwise, it's waiting............lurking.........seductively 'calling out' to you to return.
Two attachments to today's Second Cup that I wanted to share with you:
1. The Peasant and Zemyne
A short fable that drives home the point of today's Second Cup in a powerfully simple manner.
2. Burn the Dress
A visual reinforcement of today's message to download, print, and post right next to 'Own the Suck'.
Thanks for sharing your second cup with me!
Mike
