Hi,
Mid November is milestone time for me (my own personal Fiscal Year calendar).
I'm relieved to report that I completed the 2010-2011 100k goal (see below for details) .
In the end, though, due to a lot of struggles with a troublesome back and a detached connection to the goal, the sense of gratification I have doesn't match up to the level of energy put into it. There has been more catabolic energy around this milestone than anabolic.
I have decided to approach this year's goal setting exercise in a way that establishes consistent daily accountability and allows me to have flexiblity in my actions to adjust to new paths that will inevitably arise throughout the year.
My intention is to create daily rituals that will engage me at the start and end of each day where accountability will be more focused on RIGHT NOW versus a distant, end-of-year target.
After much introspection and honest assessment of needs, I've created and embraced the daily mantra of : 'P.N.C.'
Here's what it stands for:
PURGE Purge your world of the things that are limiting you, whether it's the clutter in your basement, garage, and closets..........OR the personal beliefs, professional perspectives, and world views that are past their prime.
NOURISH Nourish your body to deliver the kind of performance you need to fulfill your life's purpose. Eat clean, whole, and consistently throughout the day. Supplement with nutrients you know are recommended based on your own personal health needs.
CHALLENGE Challenge yourself to consistently go one step further than what is expected in at least one daily activity. For example, jog just 5 more minutes after that 3 mile run ....or, give your client just one more deliverable of value from you than what he or she is expecting.....or, give your loved one just one more hug as they head out for the day.
If you're stumped on this last one (Challenge), try inserting this question at the end of your interactions with family, clients, or colleagues: "What else can I do to help you today?"
Of the three PNC components above, I know that PURGING is the one that will most likely be my greatest hurdle each day to knock down.
A curious thing happened as I was about to 'save' and 'publish' this edition of The Second Cup - I received the following message in my in-box (from a daily e-source for inspiration that I subscribe to):
