CORE ENERGY COACHING
challenges people to take the time to focus on what they really want and helps them recognize and break through what is holding them back from manifesting success - however they measure it.

I know, odd title for a leadership newsletter, right? I'll explain:
My personal mantra this year is 'fit at 50' (slightly modified from last years' 'fit by 50', due to a missed deliverable). In addition to running, I'm spending time learning more about how my diet can make or break my fitness goals. Specifically, I've learned that GOOD FATS play a vital role in transporting key nutrients through the body that support good health. BAD FATS, conversely, are laden with things that work against the achievement of good health.
Now, here's the connection:
Good health and Fitness = Peak Performance I work with clients all the time who are seeking Peak Performance...in their work and personal life.
In order to help them achieve peak performance, one of the most important tools I use are QUESTIONS......the kind that are open ended, probing, challenging, future directed, and solution oriented.
QUESTIONS, like dietary fats, transport information (nutrients) from the source to the seeker in order to gain understanding and insight.
Information is the fuel for peak performance. (I like that better than the traditional...'knowledge is power')
And, so, questions are to peak performance as dietary fats are to good health. (no source to quote but me, here)
Good questions, like good fats, are unsaturated - no bias, no agendas, no confusion, and no lack of clarity.
Bad questions, like bad fats, are saturated - with not-so-hidden agendas, with self-validating intentions, and with right/wrong judgments.
Good questions are borne out of anabolic energy that reflect big-picture engagement, universal acceptance of what is 'so' , and confidence in the ability to benefit from ALL answers.
Just like my nutrition counselor gave me a 'cheat sheet' on the good fat/bad fat foods, below are 6 key qualities of GOOD QUESTIONS for you to review and begin to incorporate into you daily management practice (both at work and at home).
SIX KEY QUALITIES OF GOOD QUESTIONS:
1. Cannot be answered in one word (i.e. yes, no)
2. Are neutral - no expected or 'acceptable' answer - they honestly seek information 3. Are not ambiguous - aren't crafted to 'trick' or 'confuse'- or require interpretation.
4. Reflect active listening and understanding
5. Come from a place of honesty, integrity and respect
6. They are stand alone , equally valid both in and out of context.
Look at the difference on how each might be answered:
GOOD QUESTION: If you got that (fill in what is asked for), what would that allow for you that's not possible today? BAD QUESTION: Why would you want that (fill in what is asked for)?
And so, like a fitness coach, I'm offering you a free analysis: Send me a couple of important questions that you want/need to ask within your organization. I'll review and tweak them to insure they're the GOOD kind that will bring you clear, insightful, and revealing information.
Thanks for sharing your second cup with me,
