Greetings!

So, I got some pointed feedback from the last edition of The Second Cup that the opening word 'Suffering' caused some readers to immediately bypass the message and move on to their next email.

'too heavy', 'not good for a Monday morning', 'didn't want to go there'...is what I heard.  Conversely, I heard from several subscribers who shared with me that it was the most impactful and powerful 'Second Cup's' they'd received to date and resulted in two new client engagements.

I'm going to take another risk this week with the following topic:

LOVE
(the fuel of Leadership)

First, let's look at a few ways LOVE can be defined:
To have an intense emotional attachment to; To like or desire enthusiastically; To thrive on; A strong positive emotion of regard and affection; to get pleasure from

How would you answer this question:
'Why do you do what you do?' (for a living)

Some answers could be:  'I love
the money',  'I love the security' , 'I'm good at it and feel successful',  ' it's better than (fill in the blank).....', 'I enjoy the prestige', 'I love the routine & predictability' , etc.
The answer reveals something about which you have an attachment to, a desire for, or derive pleasure from......in a word, there is something that you "LOVE" that has manifested, in part, through what you 'do'.

Now, go deeper into this and identify what that love makes possible for you by completing a sentence like one of these:

"I love the money, because it allows me to........................'
'I love the security, which enables me to...........................'
'When I feel successful, I can...................................'

It is the information you reveal in the deeper level sentence(above)  that will give you insight into the true LOVE you have that is fueling what you do and how you do it.   As a leader (of your own life, your family, your team, or your company),  it is this type of self-awareness that will inspire others to achieve their potential, empower others to their own greatness, and enable your true, loving character to impact the world with a ripple effect like no other.

This week, I encourage you to LEAD WITH LOVE in every relationship in your life - your own self, your children, your significant other, your team, your competitors, your co-workers...and, perhaps most powerfully of all, with someone whose pain you are in a position to ease.

Looking forward to our next time,
