S2K Consulting, LLC offers one-on-one executive coaching, team coaching, and leadership training. You can choose to follow the Energy Leadership Development System, a focused one-on-one coaching program that is customized based on your specific goals and objectives, or we can create a unique program designed for your specific goals.
The name of this newsletter 'The Second Cup' was originally based on my own morning routine that requires a second cup of coffee before the cognitive portion of my day begins.
Recently, though, a good friend told me about the ancient Himilayan customs around sharing of a special tea mixture known as paiyu cha. Tradition goes that the second cup of the mixture is reserved for sharing with an honored guest.....a good friend.
The first reason tells you something about me. And, the second one......is all about you, my good friend.

| Greetings!
We're going to take a break this week from our discussion of the Big 4 Energy blocks that can get in the way of achieving your greatest potential, and will pick up that discussion in the next issue of The Second Cup.
I attended a very powerful seminar recently on the 'Law of Reciprocity' and wanted to share the concept with you and hope you'll find it as relevant as I do. The law postulates that in almost every case people reciprocate, especially when it comes to energy or generosity.
If the people in your life (professional and personal) receive added 'value' from you, they in turn will add energy to your relationship. This increase in energy will become the driving force that influences the course the relationship will take. You network will become a living, growing force.
Eventually, a tipping point is reached and the relationship becomes one of mutual trust & loyalty. This is most evident with successful professionals who's word-of-mouth reputation is the single, most powerful source of new business opportunities.
I encourage you this week to think about the level of energy and generosity you put into your relationships - customers, friends and family. See if you can find evidence to support the premise of the 'law of reciprocity' and identify specific relationships that have reached that powerful tipping point.
Once identified....seek to replicate that success with other relationships. |

FRONT PORCH READING:
WITH PURPOSE
Going from Success to Significance in Work and Life by Ken Dychtwald, Ph.D. Harper Collins Publishers 2009
The definition of success changes as we grow in life. As a child, it meant pleasing your parents; in high school, it meant getting good grades; as a professional, success usually means a good salary and the respect of others. What does success mean then? This book is a facinating look at how successful people of a new generation are re-looking at their lives after career success to focus not on leisure, but on legacy. Great lessons for all of us to learn at any stage of our lives. |
