KRL Connects Newsletter
 Welcome to KRLconnects!

Welcome imageThis is a new service from Kitsap Regional Library to better connect people and information.

When you signed up for your library card, you gave Kitsap Regional Library this email address for communications from the library. We have an array of wonderful programs and events and we want you to know about them.

Each month you will receive two email messages (at the beginning and middle of the month) highlighting special programs, events and news at KRL. If you don't want to receive these emails, simply click the unsubscribe button at the bottom of this message. Unsubscribing does not affect your ability to receive holds and pre-date due notices from KRL.

Our new calendaring feature allows you to tailor your search to you. You can now filter by event type, (story times, special events, films, etc.) age range (adult, children, teens) and branch. If  you so choose, you can use our calendar to put reminders of your events on your calendar, or even request an email reminder sent to you. Check out our new online calendar.

We hope you like KRLconnects. Give it a try, and if you have any questions or comments, please send them to: prmanager@krl.org
What Kind of Library Would You Like?

Light BulbCome to your local library and talk to Kitsap Regional Library leaders about what kind of library and what kinds of services you'd like to see offered at your branch by the year 2015.

Every five years, the library creates a strategic plan to guide decision making and budget priorities. A good library strategic plan assesses community and patron needs, library resources, services and programs, and asks what challenges lie ahead. We are now in the process of creating KRL's new strategic plan for 2010-2015. Your participation in the process is important, and one opportunity to participate will take place in your community during September. Please plan to attend and share your ideas about what kinds of programs and services KRL should focus on in the future.

This presentation by Karol and James Brown is an opportunity to visit with Harriet Tubman as an elderly woman looking back over her life. Aunt Harriet, as her friends call her, talks about slavery, her faith and friends who risked their own freedom to help the runaway slaves escape on the Underground Railroad.

Looking for a JobSo many people are looking for jobs right now. How can the library help?

The week of September 14 - September 18, each branch of Kitsap Regional Library will open their doors one hour early to connect people searching for jobs and online resources available at the library. Librarians will give a 'guided tour' of the databases available through the library to help you determine and prepare for a career.

All the open public access computers are reserved for this program time and no library card is necessary. No registration necessary - this is a drop-in program. Check the hours at your library, and come in for a demonstration of our online job resources.

Did You Know?
Did You Know
In each issue we will feature a Kitsap Regional Library service in this area with which you might be unfamiliar. Many of these highlights will come from questions asked by library users.

Kitsap Regional Library serves all of Kitsap County. We are comprised of nine branches, plus our Bookmobile and Outreach Services. We also have a Facebook presence under the name Kitsap Regional Library.

With your Kitsap Regional Library Card, you can check out and return materials at any branch library. For example:  if you check out a book at Manchester Library, you can return it at Kingston Library, or any other branch library in the system.

KRL was established in 1955 and is governed by a Board of Trustees.
Featured Staff Pick
The Somnambulist
by Jonathan Barnes

Why? In the fog-infused alleys of Victorian London, a seedy actor falls victim to murder, and bumbling sleuth/magician Edward Moon along with his milk-swilling sidekick, The Somnambulist, must follow a series of convoluted clues to solve it. Odd plot twists and quirky characters-including spiritualists, time travelers (maybe), debunkers, dystopian cultists following the works of a poet, and one very unreliable narrator-abound. Plus, it has one of the greatest first lines of all time: "Be warned. This book has no literary merit whatsoever." Fast-paced, pulp-inspired fun with a Victorian noir edge.

The KRL Foundation raises, manages, and allocates funds to support library programs which benefit all the communities that make up Kitsap County. The Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Kitsap Regional Library and was established as a non-profit organization in 1991. Tax limitations, growth in library use, and rising costs have made it harder for the Library to provide quality service to its communities. The Foundation's challenge is to seek funding to enhance library services and programs beyond the scope of tax-based funding.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation is qualified to receive tax-deductible donations. The Foundation looks forward to future projects and to its continued support of the Library in its efforts to provide the best possible service to the citizens of Kitsap County. Please join us in making a difference by choosing one of the many options to donate offered on our website.
