The Right Reverend Ron Fritts led us in prayer and in doing so chastised his own table mates which prompted a post prayer comment (see Quote of the Week). Rick Gengenbacher uttered the first two words of the pledge and then needed help from the rest of the group. Your humble editor handled the tail-twisting and handed the microphone to Sonny Christner for a story. Broke my own radio rule of you should never give up the mic.
Kirk Frageman updated us on the hip replacement for Bruce Broemmel. Surgery went well. Bruce will be at Blessing Rehab for a couple of weeks were visitors are welcomed. Thanks to Steve Wellman for sending flowers.
Kirk also made a pitch for support to buy raffle tickets for The Quincy Art Center's Artoberfest on Saturday, October 6th from 11am to 3pm. Tickets are one for $10 and 3 for $20. The monies raised will go to the Smart Kids Art Mentor Program to help rejuvenate the Art programs in the Quincy Public School System. The hope is next year they will expand this to include the Parochial schools as well.
Chuck Venvertloh handled the card draw with a pot of $200. Curt Moore had the winner number but drew a 4 of Diamonds so the pot "grows" to $200? With two principals in the house, I bet they were both scratching their heads trying to figure how it grows to the same number next week.
Congratulations to Exchangite Rich Howell who was surprised by his family with an 80th birthday party on Saturday, September 22nd at Madison Park Church. Family and friends gathered to watch Mayor John Spring present Rich with the Key to the City for his involvement in many area projects and organizations.
Hope you got a chance to see one of our own in the Exchange Today magazine with National president Lou Molitor on the cover along with his lovely wife Patti. I would tell you who it is but he's in a tuxedo and I've never seen the guy in a tux. Check it out on page 30. Let me know if you know him.
Remember to keep the time and date of November 10th at 10am open to help walk in the Veteran's Day Parade in Quincy. We will be carrying the big flag and will need about 15 guys to do so.
