Friday Last
Football was the topic last week as we heard from Bill Connell of Quincy Notre Dame High School, Rick Little of Quincy Senior High School, and Jeff Duvendeck of Culver-Stockton College. Coach Duvendeck led off talking about a youthful Wildcat team that features a 38 year old Freshman on the team. Coach Little, in his 6th year as head coach, talked about developing a system to grow on which seems to be working. The Blue Devils will be playing Mid-State 6 opponents as well next season as that conference merges with the Western Big 6 in football. Coach Connell wrapped up the conversation talking about his smaller than usual squad that will rely on its speed this season to be successful. Coach Connell is in his 21st year at QND. Quincy University Coach Tom Pajic was invited but was unable to attend as the Hawks were on the road heading for their game during the meeting. Thanks to WGEM"s Ben Marth for handling the coach's introductions.. |

This & That
President Perry Terwelp celebrating a Dallas Cowboy win by wearing his Cowboy shirt. Ron Fritts led us in an anti-Cowboy prayer and Darren Duke started the Pledge. Kent Anderson talked about the judges for Smoke on the River and Art Awerkamp thanked several people for their work with the event. There were over 40 teams including the number 2 BBQ team in the country participating this year. Mike Elbe was inducted into the Exchange Club with a ceremony handled by Gary Peters. Mike was sponsored by Jim Benz and this is his second go around with us. Dick Wentura was presented his check for $2453 for winning the card draw. Mike Lavery had the correct ticket but drew a King of Diamonds. The pot will remain at $200 until we get over $400 in it. Huh? Jeff Dorsey tail twisted and charged Dick Wentura a second dollar just for winning the pot last week and also told a couple of jokes along the way (Love you Bruce). Jim Benz talked about the Character Champions held at Quincy University on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was the 9th annual event and included Junior High students this year. Steven Heming was the guest of Vic Welper, Dan Niemann was the guest of Doug Greenwell, and Greg McVay, the Athletic Director of Culver Stockton was also in attendance. |
