Club Meets at Noon each Friday at America's Best Value Inn
This Friday
Our speakers this week will be Coach Rick Little of the Quincy High School Football Blue Devils and Coach Bill Connell of the Quincy Notre Dame Football Raiders. Both teams are off to 1 and 1 seasons. Come enjoy Quincy's finest hour and learn a little about what's in store for the high school teams this season.
Friday Last
Our speaker was Miss Illinois Megan Ervin with Mayor and Exchangite John Spring proudly handling the introduction in front of many jealous club members. Megan won the Miss Quincy Pageant in March and then captured the Miss Illinois title in June beating out 27 other contestants. She was a runner up last year in the Miss Illinois Pageant as Miss Macomb and her persistence paid off this year. She is now preparing to represent Illinois in the Miss America pageant to be held January 12th, 2013 in Las Vegas. She graduated in May from Western Illinois University. Her platform deals with "Childhood Obesity" and she is an ambassador for the Children's Miracle Network. She is also a liaison for State Farm Insurance's campaign against "Distracted Drivers". She recently sang the National Anthem at Wrigley Field before a Cubs game and will make some 350 appearances as Miss Illinois this year (hopefully the 351st will be next to me at Kelly's). Some little known facts about Megan are that she wants to eventually open her own dance and fitness facility and that she still loves to pole vault, something she did in high school for her track and field team. Prior to her speaking, President Perry Terwelp presented her with a $250 check from the Exchange Club in the name of Ethan Weiman for the Children's Miracle Network.

This & That
The Card Draw finally had a winner as Dick Wentura drew the Ace of Spades from the deck of just 11 cards. He won the $2450 cash and after his weekly expenditures of the past he will take home $2.50. After his last purchase of tickets he can now wallpaper his garage with past tickets for sure. Congrats Dick! Jim Benz led us in prayer and Charlie Ledbetter jump started us with the pledge. Bruce Broemmel twisted tails and told a lame anti New Yorker joke (Bruce, remember when we were friends 10 seconds ago?) Smoke on the River is this week and Art Awerkamp announced as of Friday we had 35 teams and 53 judges for the event. We still need more volunteers this weekend so please step up and help out. My ploy of either buy some tickets for our raffle or go on a date with me must have worked (per Art Awerkamp) as apparently The Big Dog sold the most tickets. Travis Brown is still looking for more members to walk on the Exchange Club team in the "Walk to End Alzheimers" this Thursday at Clat Adams Park . No cost, just need walkers for our team at 5:30 for the 6pm walk. Zeke Cernia announced that the AAU State Gymnastic Competition will be held in Quincy in May which will bring visitors to our city which made our Mayor smile (or was he smiling because Megan was here). Guests included: Blue-Devil Basketball Coach Sean Taylor, a guest of Tony Nutt, Alex Selby, a guest and son of Dan Selby, Halle Smith, a guest and daughter of Mike Smith, Erin Barnes, the guest and daughter of Eric Barnes, Nick Smith, guest of Kelly Stupavsky and 'Ret. Lt. Colonel-USAF Gary Dorsey, guest and brother of Jeff Dorsey.
