Friday Last
On short notice our very own Travis Brown of the Historic Quincy Business District was our speaker. The Historic Quincy Business District will be hosting the 2012 Illinois Main Street State Conference to be held in Quincy on September12th through the 14th. Travis enlightened us on what to expect from the conference. Some 150 to 200 people will be visiting. He thanks the team of 15 people for their assistance in set up the conference in just 106 day. Quincy's downtown district has a 95% occupancy rate which is unheard of in most communities around the state and country. Travis also credited the strong relationship with the Chamber of Commerce, The City of Quincy, Great River Economic Development Foundation and the County for the success of developing Downtown Quincy. He mentioned that the district, which goes from the river to 12th Street and State to Broadway, has some 581 businesses within its boundaries. Thanks Travis for pinch-hitting on short notice. . In case we had a jackpot winner, Travis brought two 12 packs to give away to keep the membership from leaving. During his talk, Rich Gengenbacher decided to help himself to one of the cans in the 12 pack. The 12 pack of Miller Lite went to Zeke Cernea and the "11-pack" of Bud Light went to Jeff Dorsey (thank you very much). |

This & That
Art Awerkamp announced we have 20 teams and 49 judges for Smoke on the River. He still needs more people to sign up to help and asked that we continue to sell tickets as well. President Terwelp thanked Gary Hillebrenner for setting up last week's Ethan's Rodeo program. Perry reported some 2 to 3 thousand people attended that event. After the meeting he proposed in a special board meeting that we donate $250 to the Children's Miracle Network which was approved by the board. He also updated us on Jack Cornell's progress with the Baltimore Ravens who will be playing the Rams in St. Louis on August 30th in a pre-season game. Jim Benz brought Mike Elbe as his guest. Mike is the Vice President of Student Services at John Wood Community College and a former member. It was also announced that he would be rejoining the club soon. Mayor John Spring led us in prayer and concluded asking for divine intervention in his winning of the jackpot which didn't happen (Didn't pray hard enough John). Doug Reed began the pledge and Jared Haugh was the tail twister. Rich Howell had the winning ticket for the Card Draw but drew a two of diamonds so he failed to win the $2318. Dick Wentura had enough tickets to wallpaper his garage but didn't have the winner. Deck is down to only 11 cards. No wonder we had a large gathering of members. Ron Fritts is needing our help in locating a venue to hold the "Abundance Exchange" hopefully in November. If you know of an owner of a building approximately 5000 square feet with parking that might be willing to donate it for 4 days please contact Ron. The City Center Hotel is a possibility. Anyone know a contact there? If so, please contact Ron. Travis Brown is still looking for more members to walk on the Exchange Club team in the Walk to End Alzheimers on Thursday, September 6th at Clat Adams Park at 6pm.
