Friday Last
Bret Austin of Austin Associates was our speaker with the introduction provided by Travis Brown. Bret and his father, Terry Austin, have been involved with rental properties since 1996. Their first property housed a 1936 Hollister Whitney Elevator, one of the first ones produced. Their interest with historical properties is foremost on their minds when they pursue the purchase of a property. They recently purchased the former Frank Hays property at 8th and Maine and are renovating some of that for business and residential occupancy. Bret credited the City of Quincy and the banks in the area for working with them on revitalizing the downtown properties. Bret also credited the company's patience in getting better tenants downtown and he would like to see more people in their 20's and 30's locate in the downtown area. Currently they own 30 properties and approximately 100 units. The renovation projects continue and there is a waiting list of some 50 people wanting to locate downtown. Thanks Bret for an interesting talk. |

This & That
Jared Haugh handled the prayer and Dan Brink started us off with the pledge. Rick Gengenbacher was the tail-twister and turned it into "Macker Stories". Perhaps he should publish those stories? It would make good bathroom reading. But then Rick would have to write them down on paper and he just gave that job up. Kent Anderson , chairing the BBQ Judges Class last Saturday, had 37 people participate. Nice job Kent. Thanks to all the Exchangites who assisted Kent with this event. Art Awerkamp talked about the upcoming Smoke on the River Event. We currently have 10 teams signed up and 26 judges lined up with more coming out of last weekend's class. Raffle ticket sales are underway. Please sell all that you received and more if you can. If you need more contact Art at 257-1709. First place winner gets a $1,000 Meat Bundle and second place gets a trip for two to Las Vegas. Remember, for every 12 you sell you get one free ticket for yourself in the drawing. Happy selling! The Card Draw pot was just shy of two grand. Joe Bocke had the winning ticket but drew a ten of clubs and lost out on his share of $1,998. We were all sad for him too. Chuck Venvertloh handled the card draw. Only 14 cards left! Congrats to Joe Bocke for being re-elected President of the Quincy Society of Fine Arts. President Terwelp presented his monthly Casual Dress Award to Fred lauder and Jacob Huff. He also recognized Jeff Dorsey for his involvement and picture in the Quincy Herald Whig for the Alzheimer's Association. He also updated us on Jack Cornell working out with the first team with the Baltimore Ravens. Perry and Vic Welper have a vested interest in Jack making the Ravens team since the Ravens play the Dallas Cowboys this season. Both are Cowboy fans and want "free" tickets to the game from Jack. Now there's support! Speaking of needing support and prayers, Exchangite Charlie Ledbetter had surgery to help with a medical issue he had. Our thoughts are with Charlie for a speedy recovery. Hopefully, Charlie will be back with us soon..
