Friday Last
President Perry Terwelp presided over the club for his first full meeting as President. In his own words, "Great, I get to start on Friday the 13th". One of the highlights of the year was the announcement of the recipient of the Bill Hagamen Exchangite of the year award handled by Jared Haugh. This year's winner was Vic Welper. Vic was a very deserving winner having worked tirelessly behind the scenes for both Gus Macker and Smoke on the River. Vic's family was in attendance with his wife, Margie, sons Barry and Ben, and his parents Bing and Bev Welper witnessing the presentation. Congratulations to Vic. Vic also forwarded to me a thank you note that he would like for me to share with all of you.
Per Vic:" I just wanted to send you and the Exchange Club members a formal "thank you" for giving me the Exchangite of the Year award last Friday. Thanks to Mel Dillman for nominating me and thanks to all the guys that help me with sponsorships for our fundraisers. It's an honor to be included in such elite company and I really appreciate it".
President Terwelp also welcomed Joel Koch and Steve Labs as new board members and thanked Curt Moore and Brian Koch, both outgoing board members for their service. Curt is going to take on the First Vice President's position and Brian will chair the Adopt a Grandparent program. Perry thanked Rick Gengenbacher for his 8 years of penning the bulletin and also thanked Mayor John Spring for his assistance with helping with lining up speakers for the programs last year. Perry also announced that Dan Selby will be taking over the Chair position for the club's Community Service Project , which will be held in November or December. The project will involve Ron Fritts' Church Sale. There is a need to find a location for this event. If you have any ideas contact Dan or Ron. Our speaker was Football Coach Mark Hendrickson of Western Illinois University. Coach Hendrickson is entering his 3rd year as head football coach and 14th season with the program. He previously worked at Georgia Tech under Bill Curry and Bobby Ross and also worked under Hayden Frye at Iowa. He currently has six Quincy Notre Dame Raiders playing on his team. They are Andy, Chip and Jimmy Holtschlag, Pat Smith, Quentin Keating and Max Dancer. Six players from one high school is unheard of in college football. He also has Camp Point Central's Nathan Knufman on the team as well so the area is well represented. He was also proud of the fact that his team totaled 876 community service hours last season. Look for good things from Western football this season. Dennis Koch off in Arizona for the Exchange Club's National Convention and he has been elected a Trustee on the National Exchange Club Foundation Board. Congratulations Dennis. More details will be forthcoming on Friday. |

This & That
Jared Haugh handled the prayer. Darin Duke led us in the pledge. Rick Gengenbacher was the tail twister. Only one guest this week and that was proud W.I.U. parent, Mark Holtschlag, who was a guest of Dan Brink. Speaking of Dan, his daughter, Emily, finished second in the recent Women's City Golf Tournament. She is a QND grad and is currently going to Western Illinois. If you see Mike Disseler this week, give him grief for turning the big 50 on the 18th. The card draw ticket was won by Jim Lierly who drew the ace of hearts and lost out on the $1740 pot. Only 17 cards remain. See everybody next week and with that pot, I mean everybody. |
